EAA's .45-70 Baikal double rifle

I own a Baikal double rifle in .30-06, but there is no doubt that big bores are more fun to shoot.

I got lucky this year when Rifle Firepower magazine asked me to write an article on EAA's .45-70 version of the Baikal side by side. After finishing the article I the test and evaluation gun long enough to do a short video.

I'm not going to tell you that this is the most practical rifle to buy, but it sure is fun to shoot! If you can watch the video without wanting to try one of these guns, I'll be surprised.

Nice video! What does an EAA/Baikal double cost? I don't own any 45-70s, and have been interested in a Marlin (because I don't want to drop $1,300 on a Browning 1886....a real beauty!).

I have also admired the Navy Arms Enfield 45-70 converted rifles.

Keep in mind, you can NOT shoot heavy loads in these 45/70 DR's, they are for factory equivalent pressure loads only.

BTW, i like my Baikal, except like all of them, it has horrible triggers that need to be addressed.

How's the barrel regulation? I think the skill required to regulate barrels to shoot more than less to the same POI at "X" number of yards is part of the high price of some doubles.

There's the usual under barrel adjustment
I'm curious too, I was looking at one of their SXS double 12ga with a set of .45/70 barrel inserts that slipped in and tensioned with a "choke tube" at the muzzle (like a Dan Wesson revolver)

You can regulate it "horizontally" with the "adjustment wheel", BUT, if you need "verticle" regulation, you got a problem!

Can it be done? YES, but it takes some "kinda" drastic steps to get it done.

I'm not sure. That regulating screw doesn't look particularly robust. I'm not sure I would trust it's durrability. What are those circular marks around the chambers? It almost looks as thought this rifle incorporates sleeves of some sort.

that would likely change somebody's socks on the receiving end.duelist,every year towards the end of the year,davidsons wholesalers out of Arizona has a special deal on marlin 45/70's guide guns with the 16 inch instead of the 18.5 barrel, if your interested

i got a 30-06 baikal and I love it! As long as you're shooting the proper heavyweight bullets for the twist, it's pretty accurate!

just watched the video. I have to admit I had higher hopes for the regulation of the barrels than what was shown in your groups.

7 lbs.... Ouch! Those barrels look aweful thin. I think another 2-3 lbs and you might have a proper double gun in 45-70.
I watched the1st video staring the 30-06 a while back. Excellent content. Nice gun to review.
