I notice a lot of shooting accessories are geared towards men: shooting glasses and ear muffs. I'm looking for the best protection but in the $20-$40 range, geared for a small woman. I just want something to block out sound. I'm legally deaf so I don't need electronic muffs because I can't hear conversation without my hearing aids. I have custom made plugs but I want good ear muffs to wear over that, not crap that breaks easy or doesn't shut out noise well. I don't want something huge, just snug and good quality. Any ladies with recommendations? Thank you.

I am at a bit of a loss here. How is hearing protection for men? I think you have unnecessarily couched a problem under the guise of sex when it is actually a problem of size, which is not necessarily tied to sex.

So you are a small person. I assume you mean to say that you have a small head? If the typical adult sizes aren't to your liking, then try youth muffs.

What you may need then are youth muffs?

Keep in mind the most effective over-the-ear muffs will have large "shells" over the ears to allow for double-wall construction design and lots of internal foam. The units with smaller shells will have less attenuation. The bulkier designs can be problematic when shooting long guns.

I like the 3M/Peltor units in a passive design:
3M Peltor H10A Optime 105 Earmuff (30 db) - multiple colors available
3M Peltor Ultimate 10 Hearing Protector (30 db)
3M Peltor X-Series Over-the-Head Earmuffs (31 db)

(All available thru AMAZON among other retailers).

I was searching for pro ears, the # of diff ear muffs on their site was baffling. However, I did come across a specific model that was smaller & they claimed was geared for women.
