Hi guy's,

I've got an early 11-87 2&3/4"/3" chambered 12 ga and I havent gone waterfowling in many years think pre-steel shot. I have the Full/Mod. I/C choke tubes that came with the gun. Do I need a different choke tube for steel loads? If I do which one? Also any recomendations for steel loads for Ducks/Geese?

Steel shot is lighter than lead shot. A regular full choke for lead shot is too much with steel shot. If you want full choke patterns with steel shot it's best to use a modified choke. Nothing smaller. If you want modified choke patterns with steel shot you should use an improved cylinder choke.

Although I no longer use steel, I use tungsten, but I did a lot of patterning with it and it behaves just like lead. You do get a little better patterns because the shot doesn't deform. Personally, I believe the early recommendations on choke were hedging by the manufacturers afraid of barrel damage.
Remington makes a Full flush tube rated for steel, and there are several aftermarket models available, if that's what you want. Most modified and more open tubes are okay for steel. When I used steel, I used #2 for ducks, and plated BBs or T shot for geese and that seemed to work as good as anything in steel.
