I was very fortunate to have found the following pictured Smith & Wesson Model 15-1 Combat Masterpiece. It's vintage is 1961. It is in mint condition and came with box, manual, and tools:
I think that I might have lucked out by virtue of this particular M15 having turned out to be the somewhat scarce model 15-1? I believe that I had read of this fact somewhere? Thanks for all of the positive comments coming in regarding this gun and for my pictures!
I'm sorry that you missed that Model 15. They certainly are beautiful guns and worth having! I'm shopping way out here on the west coast! Thanks for the compliment! Maybe the next M15 you'll see will have your name on it? Good luck!
M15s are *very* nice guns. Carried them in the AF. Closest I have come to owning one (for a short time) is one in 99% condition I picked up in the 80s for $150. My son talked me out of it which shows he had good taste in guns even as a teenager.
I do fine with M10s for plinkers, and I have a nice M66 which for some reason doesn't like me much. Someday I will ditch it for a nice blued little M15 and not look back.
Yes, this Model 15-1 is gorgeous! But, I'll have to admit that I was just in the right place at the right time, whenever I had found this gun! On this particular day, in a certain gun shop, a fellow walked in carrying three mint S&W revolvers! One was an M27-2, the next gun was an M19-3, and the last gun was the M15-1 that I had purchased shortly thereafter. The problem that I had in this scenario, was that all three of these guns were in the same mint condition-and, I wanted to obtain all three of these guns? However, I couldn't afford this-so, I had to limit myself to just one of these revolvers?:banghead: I chose the M15-1 because I knew that it was not only the oldest of these three guns-but, was the relatively scarce M15-1 plus having those beautifully pristine diamond target grips on it! Therefore, I couldn't resist buying this model 15-1 in preference to the other two S&W revolvers! Besides, I always wanted to own an mint M15 and I knew that this was that moment! I appreciate everyone's nice compliments!
