It sounds like a good buy. I have two Bulgarians that I paid $225 & $265. I just purchased a Russian bakail yester for $260. all in good condition. the bakail is a .380. I understand the east german one bring a premium

I bought one and ended up selling it. Have you shot one? They can be accurate, but to some (self included) they are not that comfortable in hand. I find a CZ-82 much more comfortable and just as, if not more, accurate.

My brother is actually the Makarov guy. He wanted it, had it on layaway, but had to let it go for a lighter carry gun. I knew that he would eventually kick himself for not getting it, so that's why I got it, . . . and he'll end up with it eventually [probably xmas]. He has a Bulgarian, a Russian single stack, and a Russian double stack.

The Pearce rubber grip makes a big difference for people that are bothered by the Mak's recoil.

My Wife liked the Pearce grip but I didn't.

Personally, I replaced all my Makarov recoil springs with 21 pound Wolf springs.
The slide is a little harder to pull but the recoil is reduced.
Even the .380 Makarovs function fine with the heavy spring.
Some people compromise by using a 19 pound spring (factory is 17 pounds).

Also I always replace the recoil spring on any used Makarov.

He bought a $450 pistol for $365. I can't understand the firearms collectors here who don't appreciate that. As for comparing the Makarov to a CZ-82 - shy? Why not then compare it to a 1911 or Colt SAA?

EG Maks are the best of the surplus guns. Some new production might be better, but in surplus EG's were the best.

I can certainly appreciate that. I was not comparing, as in a side by side comparison, I was merely pointing out my personal experience. If someone is on a limited budget and looking for a euro gun in the same caliber, to be used as a shooter, I happen to prefer the CZ-82. Sorry if I'm not allowed to do this - please contact the mods immediately.

No, . . . the CZ 82 WOULD feel much better than the Mak. Most things CZ does is very good, so . . . no problem with your comment, OilyPablo.

I didn't get home with good enough light to take pics yesterday. Will try again by the end of the weekend.

Thanks for the continued comments. :)

An EG Makarov in truly excellent condition? For $380? That is a relative steal! ...

VoPo officer Willi is calling that one in ...::neener: Congrats - and pictures please ...

I'm leaving work early today, so I should be able to get some taken today and will post them later tonight. ;)

Okay guys. Here are the pics. It actually looks a bit better in person than in the pics, but this gives you the general idea.

Nice looking PM, but I'm not sure that it really looks all that much nicer than one of my Bulgarians - and they were a good bit less than $380. (If you get it, by the way, you might want to pick up a set of DDR grips or, maybe, a set of Marschals.)

Again, my camera isn't the best, nor the lighting. It's much darker than the images here show.

Also, it was $365.

Hoosier he asked what we thought so I told him. Great collector gun, but I would prefer a 9mm luger 40 or 45, in a everyday carry gun, simply for the amount of choices one has in ammo and the availability of such. Nothing to do with not liking the gun, I carried a Walther for 20 years, but that's what was available at the time. I still love the blowback design, but unfortunately they don't make them in modern calibers.
Chances are he will continue to collect them and carry something else in a year. Like a Glock 26 or Shield.
I would pay 4 or 5 for one of M2's, nickel beauties. But I would not carry it.

That's a very nice looking gun. I don't see any holster wear on it. It's as nice a EG Mak as I've seen.

If you look at the face of the hammer you will see there is very little wear from the slide. The gun hasn't been used much.

If you shoot it a good bit you might think about getting a 19 pound recoil spring from Wolff Springs. I think they run about $10.

One thing.
I see the thumb safety has been used a lot. If you continue to use it (I don't) the spring, that rubs on the slide might get a little weak.

A friend had a EG Mak that would randomly misfire. No primer strike.
It would always fire on the second trigger pull.
Drove me nuts trying to figure it out.

Finally I fired one round, then looked the gun over. Nothing.
Fired another shot. Looked the gun over. Nothing.
Fired another shot. Looked the gun over. Nothing.
Fired another shot. Then I saw the thumb safety was half way between Fire and Safe.

Pulled the trigger again and got a misfire. But the thumb safety had been knocked to Fire by the hammer.
Pulled the trigger again and the gun fired but again the safety was half way between Safe and Fire.

The thumb safety spring had become so weak that it allowed the thumb safety to randomly move towards "safe" causing a miss fire on the next trigger pull.

I bent the spring out a little, which cured the problem but I still don't use the Makarov thumb safety.
Besides, I don't like that scratch the safety spring puts on the slide. :)

Nice score. I do not carry my EG Mak, but I do on occasion carry one of my Bulgarian Makarovs. The Bulgies I have are close in fit, and finish to my EG, but the EG is just a tad nicer in finish. They are true, old world, all steel beauties. I feel well armed with a Makarov.

A Pearce grip or Makwrap solves any grip issues.

Thanks guys. BTW, . . . the holster in the pic is what came with the gun. Not sure if it is an aftermarket thing or original. Looks too new-ish to be from 1961 [has a 61 on the frame, so thought it might be the date it was made].

Orion, you did good...real good...!

I have an E. German Mak and it is a terrific pistol. I hope you enjoy yours as much as I enjoy mine...which is a lot.

The E. German Maks are the best out there in terms of fit and finish. Mine digests everything fed to it and does it with surprising accuracy...great pistol, built like a tank and very simple design with few parts.
