Ok, the rocket scientists in Albany made the (old) NY compliant Windham an EBR and as such registrable. I may need a tin foil hat, but that doesn't sit well.

Leaving aside the 2A issues for a while, is there anything that complies with the letter of the law that I can stick the Eotech on and leave in the safe for the wife when I'm traveling.

I think an M4gery without pistol grip, fore handle and with a plain barrel would do the trick. Does such a beast exist? Smaller the better. I have a couple of 10 round clips - all the good stuff was lost in a tragic boating accident on Dec 31...

She's not big enough for a 12 Gauge. That's why we got the EBR to start with.
Any ideas?

This isn't intended to start a political thing - I live here and am looking for something legal until it gets repealed.

How about a Remington 7600? They have a 4 or 5 round detachable magazine and they are pump operated but in rifle calibers. No pistol grip and they are fairly lightweight, plus they have BUIS.

Wife. In a liberal state. I'd have been fine with an O/U, but it's for when I'm not there.
She only wanted a gun when we had kids. You get the idea.

It needs to be point and press.
If she could stand it I'd have got a Benelli and had done, but she's recoil adverse - even the 308 is too much for her.

There's a semi-auto version of it as well. I want to say it's the 7400 model but I could be mistaken.

Try a shotgun smaller than a 12 gauge. A 20 gauge has mild recoil and still makes for an effective HD weapon. Basic pump shotguns are cheap, plentiful, and it will be easy to find one that doesn't violate the 7 round limit.

Go with reduced recoil buckshot loads for a 12ga or get a .44mag or .357mag lever action.

Easy, Buy my house in Pa. We plan on getting the heck out of here soon now that our governor has capitulated. It should be ok for a year or so. We are thinking of moving to Texas. GOD bless America Gentlemen, It was good while it lasted.

I'm inclined to agree with this gentleman, a 20 gauge shotgun should be mild enough and it'll put plenty of holes in anybody trying to harm her or the kids.

The hammerhead is sold out.
I'll consider a 20 gauge semi.

I'd prefer to keep the AR configuration though - the Eotech means she pretty much can't miss so long as the outer ring is over the target, no matter where her head is.

A 20ga shotgun is lighter so unless shooting lower shot weight than a 12 ga through a gas gun, felt recoil in a fixed breech 20 ga could be greater than with a 12 ga.

So, I would counsel a long hard look at a youth stocked 20 ga Weatherby SA-08. It's a nice s/a that will take 5 managed recoil buckshot loads and doesn't run foul of the Cuomo Gun Owner Discrimination Act. And God forbid she ever has to use it, the DA will have a harder time massaging "duck gun" into "excessive force" than "semi automatic rifle",a term that politicians and media here will use insidiously for the foreseeable future or until our downstate voter base radically changes...

She'd vote for Hilary. If she whacked someone who broke in, I don't think there's a DA in NYS silly enough to take that to trial. Now me, that's a different story...

mini 14, ranch rifle. There are rails that mount to the factory holes for the mounts that come with it. Don't recall where I saw them but they exist, and that would hold your eotech. But, if you have the eotech you know this and if not you should know, it'll shut off after 8 hours. Maybe look into an aimpoint instead. (I love eotech's though)

I just looked at exile machine's website and they're showing 258 hammer head grips available in black. Otherwise I'd get a Mini-14 ranch rifle. Another one to check would be to see if any of the Kel-Tec SU-16 variants are allowed, because most of those have Montecarlo stocks, and at least one lacks a threaded bbl / muzzle device.

As others have said, a Ranch Rifle with a weaver adapter gives you a platform that evades NY registration for the time being, and the new 580 series are accurate enough for any defensive use I can imagine.

That was my thought. Probably are, since no protruding pistol grip. The SU-16CA has a "fixed" stock (can fold, but cannot fire when folded). They take AR mags, and the CA model has storage for 2 spare 10 rounders in the stock.

They run well, are very light weight, and affordable.
