Makes/Models, Ammo availability, Prices, Accuracy, Usefulness as a Hunting Rifle, etc.

From what little research I have done, I know that these rifles are held in high regard. Please tell me everything you know about these rifles,

Thanks. ;)

Makes/Models:
carbines:These are light and handy but are difucult to shoot to their full potential because of their short sight radius, bubba's models that are scoped tend to be very accurate.
94 carbine: Very rare with some extremely rare variations. Prices start around $800
94/14 carbine: 94 carbine converted or originally manufactured with a bayonet lug. Price start around $450

Full length rifles:
M96: Most common swedish rifle/ Has 29" barrel. Accuracy tends to be better than people can hold with iron sights. Sight graduation starts at 300 yards, which means that you need to hold under or install a taller front sight to shot at closer ranges. Prices start around $250
M96B- M96 riflewith a threaded muzzle for firing wooden bullets.
Husqvarna M96- very very rare rifle made for civillian FSR match shooting.
M41 sniper- pretty rare, a lot of them have barrels that are shot out.
M41B sniper- not too hard to find, very accurate scoped rifle. These can still be purchased through samcoglobal.com for around $1200, aftermarket rifles tend to sell for considerably more.
CG-63 and CG-80: match rifles built fromM96s, with a different stock, heavier barrel, and aperture sights. Not too easy to find, prices usually start around $600.

Short rifles: These would maek the best hunting rifles as they are shorter and handier than m96s, are just as accurate, and have sight graduations that generally start at 150-200 yards instead of 300 yards.
M96/38 (actually called M38s in Sweden)- M96s cut down to M38 specs. Prices usually run $300+
Husqvarna M38s- somewhat more rare than cut down short rifles, Prices range $350+

cracked butt
: thanks for the info. much appreciated.

One more question:
Is the 6.5x55 enough for texas-sized deer & hogs?

crackedbutt sumed it up,very nice " turn of the century old world craftmanship"....most mausers are.I see them alot on auctions,400 to $450 can land you a nice one.

Mild recoil, very smooth action, great cartridge.I need to get some 100yd front sights for mine also.

Bayonets are still a decent bargain also.Slings, those in good shape are hard to come by.

Matt King,

Most Swede hunters consider the 6.5 x 55 to be enough for reindeer, so it should be enough for Texas size deer and hogs.

IMHO, with the possible exception of the Persian Mauser (8mm), the 6.5mm Swedish Mauser variations are the "top of the line". If you can only have one Mauser, I recommend a Swede.

I've used the 6.5 Swede on deer and hogs with good success. Factory loads are very moderate (e.g. 140gr @ 2600fps), and handloads can make the 6.5x55 exceed the venerable 270 WCF without much effort. One of the few perfect rounds. I have one in an model 70 Featherweight, and another in a Swedish M96. Both are keepers.
