Did you bother to read the links I posted? They state that pepper spray IS more effective than not. They gathered that information from studying multiple actual incidents. The studies were done by experts in the field of bear behavior with years of personal field experience.
You might want to throw an "in my opinion" in your final sentence. If only for humility's sake.
