I own and shoot Turkish 8mm ammo in both. Each are in excellent condition.

Gas system-FN49...easiler to clean gas plug and has infinite gas ajustment.
Extraction-FN49...bolt carrier design (handle) allows better extraction of unfired round. The Hakim most often needs the butt hammered on the ground aka the AR15.
Felt recoil-The Hakim, a small child could shoot it all day without discomfort.
Accurate follow-up shots-The Hakim, full auto MIGHT even be controlable.
Feed and function-about the same, 100%.
Accuracy-Hakim but the FN49 isn't far behind.
Disassembly-about the same<than a minute
Assembly-Hakim (replacing the gas plug into the FN49 takes me several attempts, more practice?)
Most expensive to produce-FN49 but both guns are machined.

Best for Civilian Shooter-Hakim
Best for combat-FN49
Both better than the Garand?-Yep, compared to as issued Garands.

BTW, with a properly ajusted gas system, these two rifles firing the 8mm Turk ammo are the most powerful C&R military auto's on the range.
