Finally went to the range with my FN49 and about 70 rounds of Turk ammo. I've had the FN49 much longer than I have had my Hakim but due to the enjoyment factor, the Hakim has been taking top billing in ALL my shooting. Having at least proved to myself that a properly ajusted Hakim will shoot Turk ammo just fine (755 rds), I decided to do the same "test" with my "minty" FN49. I started with the gas ajustment completely backed-off (max gas escape) and by the time I had reliable function and the bolt would stay open after the last round it was turned down to where half the port was closed. Extraction is about 10 feet and the case rims are not marred or show the least sign of violent extraction. Accuracy is excellent and on a par with the Hakim. Felt recoil comfort goes to the Hakim yet the FN49 felt like I was shooting a Garand. Both rifles are simple to clean-up but the edge has to go to the Hakim, its a less comples design. For detailed cleaning the FN is the best, the gas plug and everything just fall out. Now if I can only remember why I purchased a little of that EXPENSIVE Romainian and Yugo 8mm Mauser ammo?
