I just received a pair of Remington R2000 electronic earmuffs. When the microphones are on, I can hear some "white noise" even with them turned all the way down. Is this normal?
I have a pair of Harbor Freight muffs that I got for less than twenty dollars. I get a little hiss, but mostly it just picks up the wind and other stray noises. Once, however, I was out in the desert and I kept hearing voices in my head telling me to cry in my beer and that my dog died. I don't have a dog. I started to think that I needed Ritalin, but then it dawned on me that I was picking up a country music station.

I got a pair from harbor freight too, works fine for the money. If I'm next to some particularly loud guns its a good idea to bring some low protection ear plugs as well
The Ryobi tool company markets the Tek4 AUDIO PLUS™ NOISE SUPPRESSION HEADPHONES (model # RP4530)
through Home Depot. Muffs come with a rechargeable 4V Lithium battery that lasts through an all day match, plus charger.
I bought a pair of these -25dB NRR earmuffs (approx. $50) and am pleased with the overall comfort and the noise reduction/cut-off performance. Almost nil white noise, and handles windy conditions very well. The volume control is very linear in terms of control.
The Ryobi Tek4 muffs may be a bit bulky as they just clear a rifle stock, but they don't feel heavy. There's a lot of performance in this affordable package.
there are so many advantages of electronics earmuffs like it reduced noise level, protecting hearing sense, amplifying tone and keeping off external loud noise.all voices will be interrupted when exceeding 85dB to ensure use safety in noisy environment for longer hours.
I have a pair of the Peltor Tactical, paid around 250 shipped, no issues with white noise, if I am in an area where white noise is present, I can turn them down and it sounds like a normal paire of muffs, just that I can hear people talking to me in a regular volume.
I am also looking into some new protection. I am also concerned about interferience with C/weld. I've been looking at the sure-fire plugs, Peltor and also MSA/Sodin proX but can't make up my mind. Heavy D which Pro Ears do you have?
Have tried 4 different electronic muffs over the years, all the way from $20.00 to $300.00. Ended up with a pair of Howard Leigth, the best yet. They are the noise compression type and so do not cut out all the way, gun fire ia a low boom while range commands are still easily heard and understood. Conversations are easily carried on while on the range. Cost is very reasonable at around $50.00.
The white noise you are hearing could be from a cooling fan on a computer in the room you tried them in, or possibly a fan from from a forced air heating unit (or air conditioning unit if you try them in the summer) or any other source of noise. I also thought I was hearing white noise and it drove me nuts until I realized it was not the electronic muffs but from a computer fan running in the background. Try them in an absolutely quiet place before you blame the muffs.
[QUOTEjcwit,
Have you tried the MSA/Sodin? I understand with the gel pac's they are fantastic. Military and police use them. Just wondering ][/QUOTE]
Going to stick with my Howard Leight for now. but I did google up info and they are good looking protection. I'm sure they are as our Military usually has the best from the lowest bidder.
I picked up the Harbor Freight model tonight for $15. They aren't bad for the price, but there is a little bit of ambient noise. It almost sounds like you're in a tunnel when you're wearing them.
