I just purchased the Hornady Lock-N-Load Auto Charge Powder Dispenser... got home and ran a few test... to dispense 5.0gr it took 1.25 minunts... to dispense 7.5gr it took 1.10 minunts. Is that about right or do i have a bad unit?

Sounds a little slow to me. I have mine adjusted to drop a charge in about 20-30 seconds doesn't make much difference between 4gn & 50gn but it is a few seconds faster with lager drops then smaller ones.

Looks to me like the Hornaday and RCBS are getting good reviews again. I have the Lyman and I've had it for over 5 years. Seems to me the Lyman took 21 seconds to drop 24.8 grains of Reloder 15 and 40 something for 41.5 grains of IMR 4895. Your unit seems slow to me.

What I do to speed things up a bit is throw a charge just under my target weight and have the DPS finish it off. Can't hardly keep up with the thing.

Mine is the Smartreloader. I can dump it as fast or slow as I want but there is a trade off if you try to dump it very fast. At 30 seconds I don't load that fast. By the time I seat the bullet & put the finished round in the box the next charge is ready.

I found a link to a pdf on the Hornady site about how to ADJUSTING TRICKLE SPEED and ADJUSTING TRICKLE START TIME... I will try this tomorrow and let you know if it helps... if not it goes back.

OK... After reading the pdf and adjusting the setting the Hornady Lock-N-Load Auto Charge Powder Dispenser works GREAT... and is very fast.

yep... but had to look of that infomation as it was not in the box. But I do agree "If all else fails, read the directions!"

Unbelievable, I went to turn it on this morning and display flashed and then went out.. Packing it up and will be buying a ChargeMaster 1500 Scale/Dispenser.

Nothing like super wizz bang electronic gizzmos.
Give me good proven mechanical equipment. :)

I was gonna say, it sure makes me appreciate my collection of Lyman-Ideal #55 powder measures and RCBS beam scales even more!

Seems that electronic devices just have more built in ways to not function. Somehow, a beam scale and gravity work more consistantly for me.

It takes me about 20 secs to drop a charge from my Uniflow and tricker to 5-0-5 beam scale at 0.1 grain or less accuracy.

I've only been using my ChargeMaster for 5 years and love it. It diespenses while I am seating a bullet and cycling my 1050.
Just remember, unless it is an old analytic balance (with no damping), no matter how careful you think you are, it is still ±0.1gn.
For those with ChargeMasters, the worst error I have ever had was a display weight 0.1gn over the target. I simply touch the powder in the pan with my finger and pick up a few kernels. Almost always, it is then at the "correct" display weight. If you take out slightly too much, hit the "trickle" button once or twice. If you take out way too much, simply hit the "dispense" button again.

I'm with RC on these gizmos. Just too many reports of their being finicky and kinda-sorta on the slow side. Heck, even waiting 5 seconds for the last few trickles gets old after awhile as it breaks one's rythm. I'm thinking some auto dispensers suffer from inflamed prostates.

When I got started I felt I 'needed' an auto-dispenser. Glad money was tight as now I realize my dispensing drum and dampened beam scale move things right along at a good clip.

It takes my despenser a few seconds to drop the charge not me. I'm seating a bullet while it is measureing. It is normally on the money. Some times it is over .1gn.

I went and pickedup the ChargeMaster last night... got home plug-it-in and right from the start I could see I was going to be happy with this unit. The Chargemaster combo is awesome and extremely easy to use. I purchased both units from Cabalas and am very happy with the customer support in returning the old one.

See, I have a long-standing habit of 50 years to NOT seat bullets until I have 50 charged cases standing tall in a loading block.
So I can see & compare all the powder charges.

Seating one while I am waiting on the next one gives me the cold shivers.

I keep the case mouth down unil I drop the charge into it & seat a bullet. It would give me the shevers wondering if I already put powder in that case. I also get stoped often so there is no harm in leaving a finished round but half a tray of powder filled cases with my 3 children playing around them won't fly.

You won't regret your choice. I bought the Hornady powder measure to try out and sold it after using it for a bit. Couldn't beat my Chargemaster, so I bought another one. You can also adjust the chargemaster as well, docs are online to adjust the settings. I've never needed to, the factory settings have worked well for me from 2.2gr to 242gr

Don't you just love all the negative comments from the "Luddites" that hate anything electronic that has to do with reloading? You'd think that any mention of "electronic" would scare them off.

To the OP, glad you were able to figure it out and it's now working well for you. I've had my Chargemaster for a couple years now and it's serving me well.
