Those things are consistently causing people problems. That's the one I see the most complaints about. The new Chargemaster Lite looks pretty good, though. Very good reviews.

I may be silly but + or - .1 grains seems allot to me, that's a .3 possible variance in your loads

It’s .2grn possible variance. 42.0 target could be 41.9 or 41.1 = 0.2 variance. It’s the same variance possible on any of the common reloaders dispensers, and actually tighter than most beam balances will produce. Guys neglect how much internal friction exists in their beams.

The Hornady Autocharge is a pile of junk. I went through 3 of them; none lasted more than 18mos. I bought the first, it failed out of warranty, paid for a second, which failed within warranty, so they sent me a 3rd, which also failed just out of warranty.

The computers are no good. My 3rd unit had the computer AND the digital motor drive go bad.

Like the Bossman said- price is dropping for a reason...when you need a straw to improve performance..... well I will stay with the balance scale.

I don't know of or have ever heard of anyone using a straw in a Hornady Auto Charge. That was something that had to be done when using the RCBS Chargemaster. And that was a long time ago.

Mine works well enough. ± .1 is what it does. Problem is it will always tell you its dead nuts but the beam scale will call it out as a liar :)

If I want to be real precise with charge weights, I use it, then dump its pan on the beam scale to verify and adjust as necessary. I rarely do that since the time isn't generally worth .1 gr, but on occasion. What I find is it's generally dead on 50%, a little light 40%, and a little heavy 10%. It has never thrown more than .1 heavy and not caught itself.

But, it has to be mounted on its own bench or shelf that isn't disturbed by press movement, can't have any aiflow like a nearby open window or HAVC register (nearby = same room), frequently needs zeroed (not full calibrated, just hit the zero button), and the "fast" speed setting is useless for any powder, any charge weight (that I've tried) - it will go over and error continually and no idea why it even has that setting......

It handles IMR 4895 really well - a lot more consistent than my Dillon powder measure or Lee Pro Auto Disc can do. I don't load huge amounts of .308WIN but when I do, I'm using the Hornady dispensing scale.

The beam scales sold today are also +or- .1gr accuracy. How do you know which one is lying?
I don't pay attention to the +or- .1gr as it's been pretty much proven that it has no effect on accuracy of loads.

I'm not advocating that the Hornady Auto Charge is perfect, no powder dispenser I've ever seen is.

Look at Varminterror's post, He said he got three bad Hornady Auto Charges in a row. If I got three bad ones in a row that would frost my ball powder.
But then, if I got one bad one I wouldn't be buying another one. I'm vindictive that way.

I bought one, and it's been really good, not perfect, but really good.

I've not tried the RCBS, it may be better. I have not had any reason yet to find out.
