Elk Hunting Round Advice

I bet Elmer rolls in his grave just a little bit every time my little sissy kicker bang flops another deer. He was obsessed with BIG heavy bullets, and while he did make some very good points it has been proven beyond any doubt that small caliber, high SD bullets can kill anything that walks the earth if placed with surgical precision. Ol Jack understood this, and was willing to pass on marginal shot angles and wait for that perfect shot. Elmer wanted to be able to quickly kill anything he saw from any angle. If you look at it that way I suppose a 250gr .338 cal bullet (his favorite) makes alot of sence if you have a steel shoulder, but talking down every accepted deer cartrage did little to persuade many that he knew what he was talking about. I think part of that was his very public feud with Jack who was a big fan of the 06 and 270.

Actualy Jack used the 416 for truly big game. Though you could tell that it hurt him to shoot, and he did not do so very often. I read alot of his wrightings when I was younger and I recall his saying that he did not like rifles that kicked him back. He was paid to endorse the 270 win so everything he says about it I take with a grain of salt, though I will be the first to tell you that it is a well ballanced cartrage for the open country hunter.
