The rifle belonged to @Zak Smith - he was my instructor and I borrowed his rifle for a few hours.

IIRC it was a 24" barrel shooting 134gr Scenars, but that was a while back. Wyoming is great for long-range shooting. Georgia? Not so much, so I don't do this as much as I'd like to.
I made hits with hardly any wind at 800 yds with 80 gr hornady A-max bullets in a 1x7 savage single shot 223 . l put a 22-250 1x8 twist barrel on a ruger target gun that was originally a 25-06. it was fairly easy to make hits once zeroed. that was before the 260 was available

you really don't need the 338 LM to make hits at 1050 yds. I have seen it done even with a 223. a 243, 260 rem even a 308 will do it

Yes, I know.... I have AI rifles chambered in 6.5 CM/.308 Win, .300 Win Mag and .338 Lapua Mag and a 1,300 yard range on my back doorstep and all will work at 1,050 yards but one has a lot more energy at the target. If my objective is to spend less money and ring some steel the 6.5 CM works, but if my intention is to hurt the target then the .338 LM works better. Clearly the .375 LM is better yet.

it must be like heaven to have a 1300 yd range out the door. I was in Montana for the first time last year about 30 miles from Helena finishing off a pole barn as a house for a guy that worked for me for 20 years. didn't even wanted to come back home. if I was younger I would move there

read a story about a military sniper effectively shooting a mile with a 50 cal. rifle. I thought that was amazing.

I can't do it, but people are shooting a mile with 308, 30-06, 260 and others. Not with factory loads, nor with handloads you'd find listed in any manual. Hornady sells factory loads in 6.5 Creedmoor that will make it to a mile.

Just a follow up to all of this. Mitch from the Applied Ballistics Shooting Team scored 3 out of 5 hits in competition today at the Worlds Longest Shot Challenge. They are not done yet either, tomorrow they move on to the long range targets. https://www.facebook.com/worldslongestshotchallenge/posts/71699535850753

That would make this possibly the new 5 Shot World Record once all the information is verified. Just need more information at this point.

Lots of people shooting 1000 yards these days. 2 miles is 3,520 yards, effectively 3.5 times that range.

Could that be possible with a 50 BMG or 338?

Is there something about the .375 that makes it possible? Bullet shape and weight maybe?

I like Whittington. But, I'll bet Ted Turner doesn't care much for the noise. LOL

About how much drift is caused by the Coriolis effect when shooting that direction, over a mile away?
In "The Red Circle", author Brandon Webb stated that he and his fellow SEAL students were unaware of this (for long range hits) until they were well into SEAL sniper tng.

He later became an instructor then was promoted to manager of the department.

For our 2.05 mile event (this is specific to this setup) I believe it was:

1 MOA = 37.8"

Horizontal Coriolis: 1 MOA (About 3 Feet) Which is larger than the size of the target.

Vertical Coriolis: 1.5 MOA (About 5 feet) (Direction of Fire was 300 degrees at 37.8 degrees Latitude).

Something else that is really important is that Spin Drift was about 5 MOA (189 inches or about 11.75 feet).

Great! keep us one step ahead of thr Ruskies!

I had a full custom 375 Chey Tac built to get into long range shooting. It was built by Oregunsmithing. It has a Montana Rifle Company Professional Hunter action, Benchmark barrel, Timney trigger and Custom composite stock. I paired it with a Luepold VX6 7-42× with 56mm objective. I put a ton of money in setting this thing up and loading ammo for it. I have only shot it out to about 850yrds which is no test for the rifle. I had plans to search out places to shoot greater distances. With work and 10,000 other things to always be done it sets in the case. I have been contemplating selling it or trading it for a boat but its hard to find anyone in my area interested in big guns or has the money. I guess if all else fails I will eventually get back into plinking with it.
