About the Author:
Neil Strauss is a music journalist who is also famous in the social artist (AKA Pickup Artist/Seduction community) for the StyleLife Academy which teaches men to actively engage in social interactions to improve both their love/sex/social lives.

His books are more diaries of his experiences rather than instructional books.

His book "The Game: Penetrating the Secret Society of Pickup Artists" was a journal of his training in learning the art of influence/seduction.

His latest book "Emergency: This Book Could Save Your Life" documents his experiences in training at a number of survival and combat arts schools across the country.

Cool moments in the book:
  • The fact that police are not legally obligated to protect you as an individual is discussed.
  • He talks at length about Katrina as a watershed moment for him realizing that
  • Discussion of the fragility of the social contract is repeatedly mentioned. Which is something that gun-prohibitionists (such as Josh Horwitz) like to use in their arguments.
  • The Lord of the Flies view of people is discussed.
  • The author buys a Springfield XD-9 pistol.
  • The author later buys a Scoped Remington 700 and a Remington 870
  • The author attends Gunsite academy
  • Author gets his CCW permit
  • The author muses on his skills of simply being a music critic as useless in a survival situation.
  • The author mentions the students at Gunsite parroting the old "Because there is no .46 caliber" line
  • The reverence towards Col. Cooper is mentioned.
  • The author trains with Mad Dog McClung in the art of knifemaking and reluctantly butchers a goat with Mad Dog's guidance.
  • The author talks at length with Kurt Saxon.
  • Saxon mentions that many in the far right often switched over to the Left because because they had "better booze, dope, and girls" :)
  • Thomas Chittum is mentioned.
  • OnPoint Tactical is mentioned.
  • The author describes the 4473 gun buying process
  • Tactical belts are discussed.
  • The author recalls removing two guns from musician Dave Navarro's house due to Navarro being suicidal at the time.
  • The author describes what BOVs, BoBs, and TEOTWAKI, TSHTF mean.
  • Bugging In and Bugging out are discussed.
  • Caching is discussed.
  • RAT knife is name-dropped
  • Navigating hallways is discussed.
  • Anti-gun sentiments and limiting beliefs are depicted as ignorant and fear-based.
  • Example: "It'll blow up in your hand!" "It will just be taken from you!"
  • Instructional comics are interspersed through out the book.
Conclusion:
While there is not much in this book that many of us do not already know and a few moments in the book that will make you snicker, this book is very uplifting as it documents the journey of a man who made a conscious effort to break out of his urban left-wing upbringing and make the journey towards self-reliance.

Given the level of influence that Strauss has over a large number of young men, it is safe to say that our community is likely to see new members come in.

It is critical for our community to reach out to the Pickup Artist/Social Artist/Seduction Community since they are on the same wavelength that we are in many ways. The virtues of masculinity and self-improvement being common threads to bind us into that community.

They have much to offer us. The gun rights movement could always use young people versed in the arts of influence.

Ever wonder why fashion seems so shallow? Ever wonder why fashion writing is so obtuse and nonsensical?
This is an E-book that is very useful for understanding why people wear the clothes they do and how to shape your own appearance for CCW and your social life. It is basically a guide to fashion for straight men.
