Employers shun service to weed out illegal hires

Back to immigration, I suspect the heavy numbers in farm labor and other manual labor trades is an employer dealing with a contractor crew boss or agency. The employer at the first level of accountability is covered because it is the crew boss's or agency's immediate concern about immigration status. I wouldn't condone looking the other way when there are suspicions, but the legalities may be in order. The contract wording could require legal immigration status without the need to demonstrate it. Why even ask in a seller's market? Businesses would have to be made responsible at some level even for contract labor.
There really is an issue about a business remaining competitive, so I see it as government's job to have and enforce appropriate laws and define accountability for hiring people. What that would mean though is that literally everyone would have to show proof of citizenship status to get and keep a job, no subjective exception because of American speech and white skin.
What I don't appreciate is the employment level statistics that are used, because they do not reflect how many citizens do not have jobs. Some are not eligible to work because they don't speak Spanish and wouldn't fit into a crew. They would also expect legal treatment. There are plenty of American workers to fill the jobs.
Filling the jobs isn't the goal.
The last time I replaced American workers with Mexicans, it was because I found the "Foreman" asleep in his car on my time, and I replaced a carpenter because it got too cold, and his "boarding" injuries were preventing him from working.
Production went through the roof the day I made the change.

I know of plenty of illegals that might be contributing to the economy but they also are a drain on us because they milk govt services (including welfare) to the max. How does it benefit us in the USA to have an illegal make 20k/yr picking fruit but then we are paying for his pregnant wife's medical care, schooling for his kids, welfare because they have no official income, etc, which all adds up to FAR more than 20k?
It seems that many are a net loss, and I dont see how we can continue this indefinately.

Having leaches in the USA, native born or immigrant, does us no good. Unfortunately I cannot expell native born slugs but we can do a far better job at preventing parasites from coming here.

Yeah...like illegals are filling out withholding statements and paying taxes. They are most likely paid cash, and that cash is unreported or otherwise manipulated by their employer.
If they were paying taxes, why aren't they going through the proper immigration status so they can become citizens and actually benefit from paying taxes?
I worked in England for 6 months under a work visa. I had to pay UK Income taxes for a full year! Now, if we implemented a system like that, then maybe we can talk about opening up the border some more.

I can think of at least one MAJOR benefit that citizens enjoy that immigrants, whether legal or illegal, don't.
When an immigrant crosses the border, we get stronger, and I think you for pointing out one of the many ways that happens!

Doctors warn of worst spread of pertussis in 40 years
The American Academy of Pediatrics is warning of the worst outbreak of whooping cough in 40 years, while those concerned about border control see it as more evidence that vanquished diseases are spreading due to widespread illegal immigration.
Whooping Cough, or pertussis, is particularly dangerous for children and can be fatal in infants, warns the doctors group.
"This illness is called pertussis because it is caused by bacteria called Bordetella pertussis, which attacks the lining of the breathing passages, producing severe inflammation and narrowing of the airways," says the caution from the AAP. "Severe coughing is a prominent symptom. Because the child is short of breath, she inhales deeply and quickly between coughs. These breaths frequently make a “whooping” sound, which is how this illness got its common name. Older children might not have the whoop sound. The intense coughing scatters the pertussis bacteria into the air, spreading the disease to other susceptible persons."
The group says whooping cough often acts like a common cold for a week or two. Then the cough gets worse, and the child may start to have the characteristic "whoops." During this phase (which can last two weeks or more), the child often is short of breath and can look bluish around the mouth. Infants with pertussis become exhausted and develop complications, such as susceptibility to other infections, pneumonia and seizures. The cough may not disappear for months and may return with subsequent respiratory infections.
Hospitals, doctors and other health professionals are worried about the resurgence of some serious infectious diseases, and some believe illegal immigrants are the cause.
A rise in diseases such as whooping cough, tuberculosis, malaria, measles and even leprosy are creating public health concerns and have hit hospitals and health care systems already financially burdened by indigent illegals flooding emergency rooms and urgent care centers.
Madeleine Pelner Cosman, author of a report in the spring issue of the Journal of American Physicians and Surgeons, is one of those professionals who has linked the increase in diseases with illegal immigration.
"Certain diseases that we thought we had vanquished years ago are coming back, and other diseases that we've never seen or rarely seen in America, because they've always been the diseases of poverty and the third world, are coming in now," she said.
As WorldNetDaily reported last month, even leprosy is suddenly on the radar of health officials.
Cosman recommends closing the border to all illegal traffic, rescinding the citizenship of "anchor babies," those born in the U.S. to parents of illegals, and making the aiding and abetting of illegals a crime and an end to all future amnesty programs.
"We have a terrible, absolutely vicious, law called EMTALA: the Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act, which is really the culprit that requires every emergency room, and every physician of an emergency room, to treat illegal aliens for free," she said.
Cosman said 84 hospitals in California have been forced to close because of the high cost of treating illegal aliens with only 50 percent of all treatments reimbursed by government.
"Even physicians in those emergency rooms, don't fully get the point that by being compassionate, and generous, and gracious, they are, in essence, destroying their own livelihoods as well as their own hospitals," she said.
While politicians often mention there are 43 million without health insurance in this country, the Cosman's report estimates that at least 25 percent of those are illegal immigrants. The figure could be as high as 50 percent.

I said IF illegals paid taxes. It was a sarcastic comment. I don't think illegals are paying any taxes. If they are, they have to be using bogus info, which means ... wait for it...they are hurting a US citizen by using a stolen or made up social security number!
How can illegals pay taxes when they don't have a legit social security number (or valid work visa number) since they SNUCK into the country?
You have yet to clarify if your mexican workers are legal or not. If they are illegal, as you seem to indicate, you are admitting on a public forum that you are breaking the law and harboring fugitives. AND you are frauding the IRS, which is never a good idea, since there is no legal way for an illegal immigrant to file taxes.

Biker. You're missing the point. Illegals make the contractors who hire them better off, not the country. If they(illegals) are being paid under the table, then the employer gets to keep the money that they would normally send in for taxes. Then there's the ego trip they (employers) get from keeping the illegals in line with threats of exposure to the INS (I know it's called something else now) if they don't obey every little demand.

Btw, if an employer knowingly aids, abetts(sp), or hires an illegal alien, he is committing a Federal crime. Seems to me that if the Feds decided to enforce this law, 90% of the illegal problem would dissapear. Ah well, hey waitaminute!
