Hello,

I have a problem with my 870.
When i shoot and pump, the empty shell doesn't ejects.
Or shell comes out very slowly with now power.
With full shells there is no problem, they ejects nicely.
What is happening?

Anyone can help me?

Thank you

I hesitantly disagree. Usually if an 870 is having hiccups with cheap Win shells it's because of rim expansion issues and tends to jam the action closed so that you have to really force/ slam it open.

It sounds almost like your extracter isn't catching the shell. I'd strip the gun and see if there's anything strange about the extractor. For reference on how it should look I'm sure you could find a pic of one online.

I may be way off base, but that's what I'd check.

Good Luck

polish the chamber as described on here and TFL where your other post is - cheap shells have a head made of steel instead of brass - they do not contract after they expand like brass does - battery drill 0000 steel wool and some good cleaner.....things will get better

Drs. Eric-WA and Machinsttx, the patient said "When i shoot and pump, the empty shell doesn't ejects. ...
With full shells there is no problem, they ejects nicely." My guess is that he means "fired" and "unfired."

If said extractor is chipped, how does it distinguish between fired ("empty") and unfired ("full") shells so it knows which not to eject?

Check the ejector to make sure the spring is still intact. (curved flat spring that is rivited in front of the ejector) Then the ejector itself. (metal U shaped bar with a protruding hook on the back side that catches the shell base) The pieces that sit on the left side ,inside of the receiver.

Then also look at the extractor. The extractor has to hold onto the shell casing long enough to pull it back with the bolt to the point where the ejector makes contact with the base of the shell - this dislodges the casing in such a manner as to tilt it out of the ejection port.

from what he described I don't know how the extractor can be at fault unless he's able to jack the chamber but the extractor is not holding onto the shell. I believe it's an issue with the ammunition it's self. I have this issue aswell and i'm pretty certain it's a ammo issue. that said, my solution is to shoot about 3 boxes of clay, it seems to getting better with use and repeated cleaning.

Not really new to shotguns but new to trying to get it right. I just checked my stash for my own 12ga 870 and it's all Winchester. What would be a higher grade selection for it? Practice and HD.

It's because the cheap Winchester fodder has out-of-spec base dimensions.

You have two choices - either polish the chamber or use a better class of shell. I have had no issues with the cheap Federal or Remington bulk-pack stuff in any of my 870s.

Polishing the chamber is a really easy thing to do, and although it shouldn't be necessary (thanks, Remington, for saving three dollars in the manufacturing process) it is effective.
