Enclosed Hammer or Open?

I would go for the body guard or centennial style. The Chief's style exposed hammer makes me cringe after the experience I had a few years back. I bought a 637 for my wife. She doesn't shoot much but has had to use a gun in a defensive situation against a man in a road rage incident. I knew her carry load needed to be replaced and her weapon needed cleaning. I sent my son to retrieve her gun from her purse. LUCKILY I have pushed gun handling with my children since early on. He brought me the weapon pointed in a safe direction with the hammer back.:eek:His finger was outside the guard. I calmly told him the gun could easily fire in that condition. I asked if he had cocked it and he said he found it that way in her purse. That 637 met with the grinding wheel shortly there after. I test fired to make sure I still had enough trigger mass for proper ignition and she carries that gun to this day. Knowing how light the pull is on a single action pull, I am lucky my wife didn't light that off.

Now wait a minute!! Don't I get some credit

I should have mentioned you too Old Fuff. The reason why I didn't is because everyone who reads this board knows that I am an Old Fuff groupie and it would probably be understood.

Still, others might not know of my hero worship for you so therefore I apologize on bended knee.

My hammer snags ~100% of the time.
I'm looking for a concealed hammer.

Guillermo has it right. Sometimes, depending on the pocket, you need to put the thumb tip behind and touching the hammer spur. This should solve most pocket snagging problems.

when you draw (or reholster) put your thumb on the hammer.

You can do that, and many do - but I prefer to get a "shooting grip" on the handle with my thumb in the correct position before starting the draw. This helps insure the muzzle will be straight forward, rather then turned to the right of left (left being the most common if you are right handed). ;)
