I have a pro hunter with a TC Custom shop 22" stainless 35 Whelen barrel. Thought I would try the new Hornady Superperformance in it. It has me worried. It would group 2-3 and then would send out a flyer, and in talking 8 -10 inches, then every other shot was a flyer. Didn't have the problem with the Double Tap ammo, any thoughts.

Sounds like the ammo has issues. If Double Tap was grouping fine and the only thing you changed was the ammo then I'd say you've found the answer.

Edit:
Dang that was fast. If more people report the same issue regardless of ammo then it may very well be the rifle.

The gun just doesn't like the superformance. Find another load. I have a Ruger M77 Mark II .308win that won't shoot the superformance better than 3" 5 shot groups. Yet it will shoot Hornady Custom 150 grain SST at 1 1/4" 5 shot groups. Go figure so I am not selling the gun just using ammo it likes.

i had 2 try 5 different brands of ammo just 2 get the 30-06 encore to shoot a 2" group .Federal vital shock was the only thing i could get a 2" group with @ 100yds and i consider that sub-par for a $700 rifle, heck i have a savage i paid $200 for that will shoot moa with any brand ammo i feed it.

I've heard of many complaints about the superformance ammo in it's failure to group well, right here at this site.
I suggest the Federal Fusion for good dependable ammo.

The OP has said that he did have ammo that shot well, but immediately you have the Encore haters blaming the firearm. What are you people thinking!

I too want the Superformance ammo to be awesome for as cheap and as good as it promises to be, but as NCsmitty said, I've heard the same story from many shooters. WAY off flyers and giant groups. Im still going to try some in my new 35 Whelan though. If it fails, I know ill still use the brass.

that they hate Encores? ..... Ive had mixed results with superformance ammo (and the hodgdon powder also, tho it isnt the same). It really has to be taken on a gun by gun bassis with those products. My .30-06 shoots both handloads with the powder and factory loads into less then an inch, but my .243 wont do better then 3"s. The velocity claims are right on from my experience tho.

Personally i think its worth the effort and cost to fire a box thru a gun and see if it works, if it dosent so be it.

My35 Whelen Encore hates the superformance ammo. But it loves 57.1grs of Re15 with 250 grain bullets. For some reason it likes almost all bullets as long as they are 250gr or above. It has 1:10 twist w/24'bbl

I have a rifle that loves the superformance and the old heavy mag label but also know others that don't like it at all. Change to the hornady same bullet with there standard velocity ammo and they shot fine.
