Is there any law against enlarging my original stock MAK-90 thumbhole, and carving finger grooves in the grip? Also, would this decrease the value if I ever decided to sell it?

I'm thrifty

If I get rid of the thumbhole stock altogether, then I will have to spend a couple of hundred bucks on USA parts, and I'm tight!

I don't find the thumbhole stock offensive, as some do. I just would like to make it fit my hand better.

PS: here's a picture...

Dunno if it will fit, but the SA-85M Hungarian thumbhole stocks are very nice...

There is nothing illegal about enlarging the thumb hole. I did it to mine.

You can sand the entire stock and refinish it with tung oil or spar varnish.

If you do a good enough job of sanding the wood won't look bad at all.

As for changning the value its not like an original thumb hole stock has any particular value in the first place. If you improve it you are not going to hurt anything.

An ak is a shovel not a scalpel!
