Thinking of using an Essex slide to build my next 1911 Commander and was wondering if anyone has ever used one. Looking for comments good or bad. I realize that a forged slide is more desireable, but I am willing to try the Essex. I have built several 1911s on Essex frames with Colt uppers which assembled, and ran flawlessly.

I have read of a couple of people using them and don't recall any specific complaints. No one ever said, they are badly out of spec and unworkable. They are supposed to be a good low cost alternative that will take all the wear the average shooter will dish out.

The last Essex slide I used was really nice, a lot better than they were 10 years ago. I wouldn't hesitate to use them again. The last couple I have used were STI, and the verdict isn't in on them yet.
