In a brilliant act of political satire, someone has created a petition to the white house here to create a gun free zone around the President and Vice President. All guns would be eliminated there, and the Secret Service would not have any.

If it is good enough for our children, It is good enough for the president, the logic goes.

I am constantly amazed that people are perfectly comfortable around someone with a gun, if the person is wearing a uniform. Remove the uniform, and the same people become very uncomfortable.

The first I really saw was suggesting that the host on that talk show in DC be arrested for holding a 30-round mag, but I haven't paid attention to politics much before this.

There will be no response from the White House.

I want the President to be surrounded by an appropriate security force to protect him from any and all who would seek to harm him. I also want the average law-abiding US citizen to be surrounded by an appropriate security force to protect him or her from any and all who would seek to do harm.

For me, that force is me and my guns, and the harm from which I need protection includes that emanating from Washington.

While I realize it is intended to point out the silliness of "Gun Free Zones," with which I agree, I think it would have made much more sense, even in this satirical context, to designate the White House and Capitol as Gun Free Zones.

Lol... I just went over to the web sight to sign the petition. I thought it was a bit odd that I had to prove who I am in order to sign. But showing a voter registration to vote infringes on the people's civil liberty.
