Even with Ike, you gotta love Texas

I pity the looter that thinks to come into our neighborhood.

I was having a conversation with my neighbor and we decided that any looters would in a bunch of trouble. We have enough gunnies in the area that we won't be touched. My actual comment was, "How do you think looters will deal with interlocking arcs of fire?"

Anywhoo.. in the southern part of Harris so I may get some wet. And worst of all... I have Comcast. So within five minutes of the first rain, I'll be offline. :(

So may be a day or so before I get back on.

Food: Enough food for several weeks. Check

Drink: Cokes, DP, Water, Beer, scotch. Check

Ammo: DUR! Check.

24 hours and it will all be just a bad insurance claim.

They are saying that 40% of the population decided to stay on Galveston Island.

Not cool.

That is a restrained way of putting it. I heard that press conference. I'd like to kindly point out to all the hurricane partiers down there that the reason WE were told not to evacuate is so THEY could have a clear shot to save their sorry butts. So they decide to stay? It's their choice, yes, but next time I may take the whole "stay off the road so the poor folks on Galveston can get out" with a large grain of salt. On my margarita. In Austin, with my kids, while driving toward my nice, dry ranch.

And in the whole spirit of really TRYING to keep this gun related, I should try and get a pic posted of my new little Beretta Bobcat. That thing is so SLICK! Very very cool for a little BUG. Can't wait to get to shoot it :D

Y'all stay safe down there! Turn your fridges up as cold as they can get... the longer you have refrigeration the better. Also go out and blow the bugs out of the generator (start it) and make sure you've got fuel. In PA last winter we had a huge ice storm that knocked out the power and let me tell you, being without power for just a week stinks. If you live "waaay back in" like I do, it could be a good while before you get power back.

My thoughts and prayers are with you, keep the gun(s) nearby and lock the doors!

I hope every one has as safe, comfortable and low an impact event as they can.

Sincerely,
WNTFW

AMEN! I'd much rather be checking my mags in Austin myself. Have friends in Pflugerville and Round Rock and one is a serious gun nut.

Range time at Red's and then a beer. AAAHHH! Some happy thoughts for the day.

IKE

Just another reason i'm glad i moved from Pasadena (stink a dena) to bexar county!!!! You folks in Harris county and surrounding area, stay safe and be alert!!

One of my attorneys (and I think Galveston counsel woman) decided to stay. 6 blocks from the seawall. Says that she and her husband are prepared and that so far the media is playing it up a bit. Said that Galveston isn't flooded per se and that most roads are still navigable.

As for me, I"m covered by the 3 G's. Guns, gas, and grub. GTG.

This is common behavior in fancy neighborhoods with fancy homeowners associations. Usually the 'shiny hologram' is used all the time, so the cops know who lives there and who doesn't.

If this is the case here, perhaps Mot45acp hasn't picked up his current sticker before now?

springmom, once this blows over, you are going to love shooting your little Bobcat. My neighbor's wife has one and I've fired it.
You will have a blast.Close by varmints,beware!

I'm about 180 miles north of Houston, in Jacksonville. Projected path is right across it. US 69 is a major evacuation route, and traffic northbound on it started picking up early yeserday. I work in a small hospital, 4 story building, so occasionally I would walk down the hall and look out at that main drag. By 1 PM it was getting very congested, when light turned red traffic quickly backed up about 1-1.5 blocks. At least people are not driving crazy, I have not heard of any traffic accidents. Gas prices bumped up about 30 cents today and diesel a dime. Weather has gotten dark, and overcast, very still and quiet with a few light showers, the calm before.

Earlier the sun was shining and hot, and you could see high fast moving clouds coming from south southeast.

I have everything that might blow, down low, either weighted or tied down. The generator is plugged into a big double throw switch between meter and circuit breakers and ready to go. I have about 40 gal of gas ready for use if needed.

Plenty of food, water and ammo also.

Yup!

Looks like Galveston will get nailed pretty good. The Strand is flooding, West End under water, Seawall covered with debris , 61st St pier evidently smashed to rubble and it looks like the Balinese room is about to fall.

To add to my irritation, the hotel here in Dallas I evacuated to is full, and all the little kids are running up and down the hall yelling and screaming. :fire:

Want to know something crazy?

Here in College Station, I had friends that "evacuated" to houston.

Now somebody tell me the logic behind that!

You staying in CS for the storm, man? For a while it looked like it was gonna get nasty here, but I work at Champion Firearms and they aren't closing tomorrow as of right now, so I'll be there all day tomorrow.

If I had to guess,he's in a line of work similar to mine, and works for a company that will do power/supply line restoration to the main fuel suppliers and stations after the storm blows through. I've got the same hologram for my license for access to disaster areas that are locked down to all but necessary personnel.
Just to keep it gun-related-I've got the P94 loaded and within reach with the spare mags loaded and ready, the wife has the P89 and the spare mags loaded up, and the Mossy 88 is loaded with 3" Magnum 000 Buck with plenty of reloads on hand. I bought the last 2 boxes of 3" Magnum 000 Buck from Wal-Mart in Silsbee yesterday.

I am concerned that they evacuated a lot of people from a "less desirable" city with a high crime rate through our area. It just showed on the news that a lot of people from this area hit the traffic in my town and said they were going to ride it out here in their car.

I had not thought of that before. That’s terrible. We had evacuees from Gustav and now from Ike, but we have not had any trouble. Good luck to everyone in the path of Ike and the looters.

May God help those Texans who hunder down tonight. You will make it, or at least we hope so, because you have a whole different mind-set than those in NOLA.

I would hate to see anything happen to Geraldo but better him than someone useful.

I guess we do, I don't remember lying around on my butt complaining and asking where "help" was at after Rita thrashed our area. I remember walking down a local county road, chainsaw in hand, with 4 other guys doing the same-cutting our way in to check on our neighbors and their homes. It was still drizzling rain, and one of the guys fired up his tractor to shove the tree debris off the road as we cut it into manageable sized pieces so vehicular traffic could pass.

Ike seems MESSY thus far

Ike's eye is still 130 miles out at last report. The footage I've seen to date on the WEATHER CHANNEL shows rising waters well ahead of this storm. Galveston does not seem the best place to be at this time. Apparently getting out is too late now, so hunker down and weather the fury of IKE. Love ya, cliff.

WHEEEEEEEE! It's getting a tad breezy up here.

We just went out to walk the dogs one last time. Very windy, but lots of folks are still out enjoying the wind. It's rather invigorating, the dogs love it (we call it "terrier weather", as the Irish terriers think it is their chosen element :p and it is sort of energizing. Probably just as well, as once the rain bands get here there won't be lots of sleep anyway.

Did see lightening up in the clouds, off to the south. Not long now, I expect.

Fox and Geraldo are nuts! He's out by the sea wall in 117 mile an hour winds.I'm no fan but I just told my wife these producers better get him in before a flying chunk of concrete cuts him down for good.
