Has anyone here ever attend a marksmanship event during the Olympics? I did in 1984 at the Los Angeles Olympics. It was held in Chino, CA (southeast of LA) at the Prado Olympic Shooting Park.

There's not really all that much to the "shooting park." A trap/skeet range plus outdoor places to shoot handguns and rifles. It was cool that it was "outdoors" given CA exceptional weather. We watched skeet, trap and 25M rapid-fire pistol. It really felt good to be an American at those events!

Now that LA has secured the 2028 Olympics, I'm looking forward to attending the shooting events which will be held in the San Fernando Valley, about 20 miles from the city's civic center.

I'm not sure they can legally have a shooting even in California. Quite a few competitive guns are not on the "approved" list and most of the pistols for a few sports have a magazine in front of the trigger guard, making them terrorist weapons of some sort. It will be interesting to see if they have shooting events, I had heard the Brits wanted laser tag type "guns" for their Olympics.

There's a special list of Olympic pistols that are exempt from CA "safety" & "assault weapon" laws.

I attended various shooting events at the 2012 London Olympics. I watched two time gold medalist Michael Diamond set an Olympic record perfect 100 in qualifying. To show how much of this game is mental, he missed several during the final and finished fourth. I also watched some of the 22 rifle events, but while it could be very exciting if edited properly, it's just a bunch of guys shooting when you're there.

Thanks for the link. One way or the other, firearms will not be an issue in CA in 2028.

I saw the temporary shooting facilities in London on TV and they were soooo different than Chino, CA. Far nicer in many ways. It will be interesting to see what LA will do because the facilities will also likely be temporary in the Sepulveda Basin.

Yes, indeed. It can get sorta boring, but by golly it was the Olympics! I suspect my friends and I overdid it with the patriotic garb and all, but it was fun.

It would be great to add an additional shooting event for the Olympics. Rimfire Steel Challenge where each stage is run heads-up between two competitors. Either with handguns or rifles or both. That would make for some great competition!
