Ever Been Held Up

Yes. I was going hunting in the Catalina Mtns south of Oracle Arizona. Winding down a old dirt road in a open Int'l Scout just before dark. Three men had the road blocked with a Chevy 4x4 suburban. As I approached the 3 came out of the bushes, one left, one right and one behind me. None were armed. Then the one that was talking on my r/s grabbed my rifle which was leaning on the passenger side. I had a Colt Woodsman with me, unsnapped the holster and had it in my hand. Their whole attitude changed like flipping a light switch. He let go of my rifle and they all backed off a bit. I said I thougt you were broke down and to get out of my way , as I drove around them. Half hour later I told some off duty police who were hunting and they couldn't have cared less. So take care of yourselves.

I was robbed at work in 1976 ... working graveyard shift at a hotel at VaBeach ... got my first Concealed Permit shortly after that.

In '81 after leaving the downtown Norfolk hotel where I worked (training up a new Night Auditor ... I exited the dark "employees' entrance" on the lower level ~3am) I was grabbed from behind but, thankfully, quickly shifted into automatic mode, breaking his hold, spinning around and giving him a couple savage whacks with the 7-C-cell Kel-lite that was always in my hand at such times. He stumbled off screaming and bleeding. I went to my car before the adrenalin dump turned my knees to rubber.

Personally -- no, thank God.

But my mother-in-law (now sadly departed) was the victim of a home invasion in the 1980's. A gang of thugs burst into her home in Queens, NY, while she was bringing in groceries, tied her up, terrorized her, stole money and jewelry, and probably was responsible for leaving her with a heart condition that haunted her through the rest of her days... :fire:

My wife-to-be came home from school and found her. Today, my wife has no qualms about sleeping with a .38 in the nightstand, and likes having handguns within easy reach throughout the house (no kids).

No, but I'm a pretty big 'ol boy... 6'4", 250lbs... a little spare tire, but a good bit of muscle too.

I guess they think that there's easier targets out there than me.

Thing is, for most of my life, I couldn't fight my way out of a paper bag. Didn't even start training until after I started carrying a gun. I realized I was severely limiting my SD options if my ccw or knife were the only tools in my toolbox.

Well, I was in a C-store when a pregnant girl with a butcher knife walked in wanting the receipts. Tried to stab the clerk across the counter, too.

I was working security patrol, armed and plainclothes, simply in the store for a Coke. I drew my Model 66, yelled several times at the clerk to drop so I could get a good shot. He just stood there. Finally she gave up and ran out.

That was 1994.

I was a naive 18 year old in 1977. I was out walking my Mother's dog, a car pulls up along side me, with two young guys in it. They ask me for directions, and I, stupidly walk over to the car to help them. A gun comes out, and I am relieved of my comb, and watch. They leave, and I'm standing there with my the dog's leash wrapped around my ankles, stunned, and unable to move.
Called the police. They came and wrote down what happened, and that was that. After that, I got angry at myself for being stupid. I've carried ever since.

In 2004, had a home invasion. I was on the road about thirty miles from home. My now Wife, then Fiance, who is disabled, was at home when a guy, who she never seen, started ringing the door bell, and knocking on the back door. She called me on my cell saying she was scared he had been doing this for over a minute. I told to her to hang up, and call 911. I called my Brother who lives fairly close, and My neighbors across the street. While I was on the phone with the neighbors, they looked out their window, and saw the guy enter the back door. The neighbors husband, who is retired, ran out the door, and headed across the street. Halfway across, he sees the guy jump back out the door, and take off running. This invader busted the lock on the door, stuck his head in, and came face to face with a ninety pound Bull Terrier. I guess he decided what we had, he didn't want.My Brother got there shortly after, and Canton"s finest showed up twenty five minutes after my Wife called 911. I who was thirty mile away with no siren, almost beat the Police there.
And to even top it off, they didn't catch the guy, On their Report they put down Trespassing, and not Breaking and Entering. So even if they caught the guy he would have gotten a slap on the hand. I even showed the Channel Lock marks, and the crush on the doorknob. His response........." well we don't know how long those have been there".....GRRRRRRRRRRRR !!!!!!
