My homeowner's insurer is being a bit .... eh... snippy about firearms. (I'll keep it high road)

I was looking at the NRA endorsed option through Lockton Affinity. The premium looks a bit steep at a glance. But that's only one consideration. Response to claims is quite another, and is a serious consideration.

Has anyone filed a claim against their Lockton policy? Were they timely and helpful? Did they give you any static?

Anyone else have anything at all to add about firearms insurance? Good companies to go to, etc?

I came home from a deployment with the Navy once, to find my Model 57 missing.

They make you supply of copy of the police report, which cost more than the cash I had, and I didn't get around to it before I deployed again.

When I returned, I figured it was too late. :(

You have to make a claim within 80 days of your loss.

I discovered the insurance about 75 days after my Steyr S40 was stolen.

Anyway, I got a copy of the police report, filled out their form, sent it in and had a check within a couple weeks.

They were very easy to deal with and when I talked to the lady on the phone she said even if the paperwork got there AFTER the 80 days, she would use the date of our phone call as the claim date (which she did).

Overall, they've been the easiest insurance claim I've ever had to make.

Just curious . ..who's your homeowners under? I had State Farm and they gave me quite a bit of flack about having more insurance for guns than the basic firearms rider would allow.

I have the NRA firearms policy on my collection.

My homeowners is Allstate, and they are..... "snippy" too :)

I have never personally filed a claim thank goodness but I have a friend that lost a VERY nice Weatherby rifle to theft on a hunting trip in Colorado several years ago and they paid him pretty easily.

They did ask for a police report, and the rifle in question was listed specifically on the policy. They make you list everything with an individual value of over $1500. He was satisfied with the amount paid, it's an actual cash value policy not replacement cost.

The premium is pretty high but it's just kinda the cost of having firearms to me, can't imagine having any without coverage of some kind.
$16 per thousand is the current rate.

Covers theft from a locked vehicle too, some I've seen exclude coverage unless it's inside somewhere; house or hotel etc.

Farmers Group wrote me a policy, no sweat, all I had to do was have them appraised by the local dealer.

ding ding ding!

This is why I'm pricing the Lockton stuff.

it's an actual cash value policy not replacement cost.

That's disturbing. I want replacement cost. I mean, the assumption would be that I'd pay more for that, but I paid $x for my gun. Yes, it's value now is $y, but to go back to the shop and get another one, it's going to cost me $x. I want a check for $x.

Hmm... interestinger and interestinger.
