Today I received an email from the NRA-ILA advertising Lockton's Armscare Plus policy for firearms. As noted in many other threads, membership in the NRA comes with $1000 coverage of this type.
I looked over the policy certificate on Lockton's website, and noted something that would discourage me from investing in this policy.
Section IV. Exclusions, paragraph H, states, "Loss or damage to illegal weapons. Illegal weapons shall include firearms prohibited by any Federal, State, or local jurisdiction or regulatory agency." It sounds to me like any firearm that's prohibited by any jurisdiction or agency in the US would be *excluded* from coverage, even if it's legal where I live. Basically a lowest common denominator exclusion -- pick the most restrictive jurisdiction in the US or any set of jurisdictions, and apply the standards of those jurisdictions to one's insurance coverage. For example, since Washington DC forbids civilian ownership of handguns, it seems that this policy would also exclude coverage of handguns.
Has anyone on this board purchased and filed a claim under this policy? The one feature of the policy that I like -- that I don't have to provide serial numbers for even scheduled firearms -- isn't so good in my estimation as to overcome my reservations about the above-noted exclusion.
