How would it affect groups if you assumed a prone positition, swung your folding SKS bayonet about halfway down, planted it in the ground, and used it as a rest?
Have you ever done this?

I woudn't plant it too firmly - a rifle needs "follow through" recoil for consistent accuracy.

But hey, probably couldn't hurt... As a photographer who occasionally uses a monopod, I'm surprised that folks keep using the bipod-type stuff...

A friend of mine tried it. Using the bayo and the roof of his car. He managed to shoot a hole in the car on the third shot. He said it's not real stable. Yeah, he's kind of an idiot.

Now that is funny.

Kind of?

I see no reason why it wouldn't work, but it wouldn't be as stable as a bipod (not necessary for it to be), and the cleaning rod (if you have one) could potentially get loose, so keep an eye on it.

I have a Chinese (Viet Nam bring back?) ex-army SKS that came with a blade bayonet and a water logged stock. The blade was badly worn down around the tip and the locking mech was worn out. I'm sure the bayonet was used as a monopod or entrenching tool.

The stock was replaced with a Chinese red fiberglass jungle stock, and the whole bayonet assembly was replaced by a new spike bayonet assembly so it wouldn't rattle and flop around.
