Ever want to sell everything and start fresh

I some days think of cutting down to 5 or 6 weapons period, a shotgun a 223, and 4 or 5 pistols, I may indeed do just that, I end up back close to what I started out with 45 years ago, except for the revolvers.

Unless you're a collector for the sake of collecting, I think what you said is the move. Each of us may have a different number for what we need/want out of our guns but they are tools to me and I don't need 10 different 3/8" sockets. Maybe 2 to have a backup and a deep well.

Figure out what roles you want to cover, if you need a backup for those roles or if one gun can cover several roles well.

Its taken me awhile to figure out what I needed my guns to do, but once I figured out the roles and what guns covered those roles, it got pretty easy. Don't get me wrong, I'm tempted to buy ones I don't "need" and if I do that's OK, they just are luxury items then and not tools.

As for myself, I've always enjoyed low-cost used luxuries - and learned a lot in the process. Some became very practical tools. ;)

I think the temptation to start from scratch springs from the desire to continue the hunt for the best stuff, whatever that means for each of us. I love searching for great guns and the best reloading equipment. For me, the search is half the fun. Then the real reward comes when, like now, when preparing for my p-dog shoot next week as I pull out each rifle, the carefully loaded ammo, my best binoculars and range finder.....And so it goes. I never stop thinking about ways to do it better, including maybe a different rifle, better scope, perhaps a better rifle rest.....and on and on.....

My collection has altered a bunch in the last couple of years. Now, I lean toward S&W double action revolvers, '98 Mauser type turnbolt rifles in Military calibers, and over/under shotguns. I do have a Match 1911 pistol.

Simple is better.
