WASHINGTON (AP) - Former District of Columbia Mayor Marion Barry was robbed at gunpoint at his apartment by some youths who had helped him carry his groceries.

Barry, who wasn't injured in the Monday night robbery, said he gave the youths a couple of dollars for helping unload groceries from his car and they left. They returned, however, and after Barry let them into his Southeast apartment, they pointed a gun at his head and took his wallet, which contained cash and credit cards, Barry told WRC-TV.

"Obviously, I'm traumatized. To have a pistol cocked in your face is not something you cannot feel emotional about," Barry said.

Barry, 69, is a member of the City Council and served four terms as mayor. In his third term, he was videotaped in 1990 in a hotel room smoking crack cocaine in an FBI sting. The following year, he served a six-month prison sentence.

He is awaiting sentencing later this month in federal court on his guilty plea to two misdemeanor counts stemming from his failure to file income tax returns in 2000.

How's that handgun ban working ya?

I might add James Brady was turned into a drooling vegetable and poster child for the gun grabber movement in the very same city, under the same draconian handgun ban, right under the noses of the most elite law enforcement agents the country can offer. Yep passing 1 more gun control law will do the trick.

would a 6mo drug sentence and two tax misdemeanors keep him from getting a permit in DC? (i mean, assuming they had such a thing) i wonder

Indeed!

Ex-felon Mayor Barry and his cohorts were instrumental in making the District a gun-ban sanctuary, and also the high crime capital of the East coast.

Enjoy it your honor Mr. Mayor....

Hope the crooks taught you an important lesson: gun bans don't work!

About 15 years ago, the Washington Times ran a political cartoon comprised of two identical panels showing a man reading a newspaper. The only difference was the headline on the newspaper.

In one panel, the headline read "Gun Violence Rises After Gun Ban."

In the other panel, the headline read, "Gun Violence Falls After Gun Ban."

In both panel, the man said, "See, this is proof we need more gun control."

That's the best insight into the Gun Controller's mind I've ever seen.

If the guys who robbed him were a couple of crack smoking brothers, that would be justice.:D

Double fault: Barry describes them as "youths". Everyone knows that not only are hand guns illegal in DC, but also, that "youths" aren't allowed to carry. So this crime really, really didn't happen.

Ya think??? "Mayor Barely", aka "Hoovernose" & "Smokey" has now fallen from practicing elitist crime to experiencing street crime. How appropriate.

In a typical whacko anti-gun state of mind....Barry said that he didn't want the 'yutes prosecuted and that he "loved them" He probably doesn't want them prosecuted because he still needs them to deliver the goods.

Only because his victim was disarmed by the unconstitutional DC gun laws! :cuss:

Oh! You mean for once, He was the victim?

My Bad!

he gave the youths a couple of dollars for helping unload groceries from his car and they left.

Translation from Barryspeak to English--he paid the gangsters less than they expected for his smack, and they took issue with it.

and the hits just keep on coming...

D.C. Council member Marion Barry tested positive for cocaine use in the fall in a drug test ordered by a court after he pleaded guilty to misdemeanor tax charges, according to two sources familiar with Barry's case.

in other news, hiding >$1/2 mil in income and not filing taxes for 6 years is a "misdemeanor"

Why do I think that the kids delivering groceries weren't really delivering groceries...

The NRA sent out an email alert with this getting top billing. What didn't make it into the article was the full sentiment of how the mayor's feelings were HURT because, ya know, he's one of them.

And also how he wouldn't want them prosecuted (yeah, that made the article, but what follows is more important), but would push for stricter laws and sentencing for crimes involving firearms.

Sooooooo, he's saying that he doesn't want to prosecute for laws already on the books, but thinks that more laws (which he probably wouldn't want to prosecute for either) would have made a difference? :banghead:
