Just finished evaluating a new SKS sight that's been mentioned here several times. Got two from these folks:

http://www.tech-sights.com/

Installation was fairly easy - hardest part is removing the factory rear sight from my Norinco SKS. It's a three handed job, helps to have a buddy depress the leaf spring while you tap out the sight. The locking pin on the rear of the receiver was taken off with a bolt cutter, if you don't have one available, filing down the stud may be a bit of a pain.

I did not have a problem with the rear sight housing obstructing my vision as rbernie reported, but that may be either just me or my SKS may vary in some small way from rbernie's rifle. Next up is installation on my SKS Paratrooper, so may have something different to report.

Practical accuracy was vastly improved and getting 1.5 inch groups with Federal softpoint ammo was no problem. Best groups formerly were about 3 inches.

Three RKIs I showed the rifle/sight system to were very impressed. I'm very impressed and highly recommend them. :)

Holy cow 1.5 inch groups out of an SKS. At 100 yards!? :D

How easy was installing the actual sight itself? It says you don't have to drill or tap but I can't see how it stays on then. :neener:

Actually it was 60 yards from a bench. I have seen a SKS do very well at 100 yards, so it's quite possible. :)

The rear sight is secured by a bolt. Very simple to mount. Simple works for me. :D

It should. :D

I'd not have an SKS without a TechSight. More to the point, an SKS mit TechSight gives me everything I'm looking for a truck gun, brush gun, plinker, and/or SHTF go-to rifle.

Another SKS fan here, I've got two of 'em. The Chinese is more accurate than the Yugo (which has 'California', the grenade launcher replaced by a big welded on muzzlebrake). Plan to upgrade the Yugo with a new stock and sights. Thanks for the head up. :)

Only thing I may add will be (possibly) a butt extension. My para has one and it does make a bit of a difference.

Hard (impossible, IMHO) to get a rugged, reliable centerfire autochucker rifle much better for twice the price. With ammo at 100 bucks per thousand, that simply puts it into the deal of the century. :)

Dang it, I might have to get one of these now instead of a 30-30 like I was thinking!!!

The only problem I have is I can't find one with a decent stock, and I don't think the ones i've seen would look any better refinished. Anyone make a decent wood replacement stock for them?

A real aperature rear sight might just make the SKS my next gun purchase.

Gotta grab one and either a stock extension or a whole new stock. Mines just a little too short.

Last I checked, you could buy $10 Romanian SKS stocks from places like CDNN and TAPCO and AIM....
