I just saw a Springfield XD .45 13 round magazine with grip sleeve for $34 at a popular online store. I paid about $40 for one at a local shop. Why are some magazines so expensive? I can get windowed magpul Pmags for $17 with free shipping. I'm sure that Pmags are a lot tougher than these expensive pistol mags and they hold double the number of rounds.

It sucks to buy magazines for some guns, and I seem to gravitate towards the more PITA/high-dollar magazine fed guns, which sucks even more.

Walther PPS (GREAT gun, magazines outrageous)
CZ52 (magazines don't exist, and you pay a ton for beat-up junk ones to refurb)
Yugo M57 Tokarev (ditto)
XD45c (OP knows the pain ... I just buy the 10-round magazines, as I have no use for a non-flush mag for that gun)

It is just a matter of demand...there is more demand for AR-15 mags than for XD mags, plus it is a ore competitive market (more supply)

BTW $34 isn't expensive or a magazine. Magazines for an H&K P7 usually run $50+ and ones for the Sig 210 commonly run into three figures. Large capacity magazines for the 1911, like the STI/SVI and Para-Ord are pricey too

Thanks for the info guys. I also noticed Kahr mags are expensive. I am really going to look at magazine prices when I buy guns because I like to have a lot mags. You can load mags at home and spend more time shooting at the range.

Thanks for the links bds. The XD mags I want are $30 and the Kahr $34 at CDNN. That is still expensive, but the lowest I have seen so far.

That's one reason I like Beretta. Good mags are everywhere and inexpensive. Mags for my FN are all stainless and run about $40.00 each. Can't afford near as many of those.

I bought the xd 45c 10 rd mags at my lgs about a year ago for 27 otd. wish I could find cheaper browning buckmark mags.

Just be glad you don't have to buy mags for a Russian pistol that is no longer imported. Now those are expensive...

Most expensive? Try $50 for a SIG Mosquito mag! I bought two @ $40 each from my LGS & then got two more from Cheaper Than Dirt for $30 each.

I bought a FEG/Mauser P90DA that took me a month of searching/researching before finally buying a batch of ProMag 10 rounders for it. Luckily, all four seem to work fine, which is a departure from my past experience with Pro Mag.

Check this out for you XD mags. This site usually has anything you would want for an XD.

Sorry I looked at the price of the wrong mag. The 13 rounds 45 acp with the extension is around $36 there. I was looking at the price of the 10 round flush fit which is about $10 cheaper.

I just ordered 2 factory magazines for my FNP-45 at $35 each

magazines for my Para cost $50 plus and are hard to find

AR mags are so cheap because they are all the same pattern and have been for a long time

AR-10 mags are expansive and hard to come by since only Armalite makes them and no to little aftermarket ones are available

But if you have a AR 308 with the Knights/POF/DPMS pattern, mags are available and reasonably priced

I'm going to say that generally, anything $30 and under is quite inexpensive. I only consider them really "pricey" when they are $50 and more each.

I mean, what are the truly cheap (cost, not necessarily manufacture quality) magazines you guys are basing this off of? Glock? Check Mate 1911 magazines?

Check out the cost of magazines for Bersa firearms. Not cheap and also not readily available.

This seems to be the case with most guns that ship with only one mag.

you ain't seen nothing yet, just try buying an original two-tone mag for a Colt 1903 .32
IF you can find one. We're talking $150 to $200 a piece:what:

oh, and there aren't any aftermarket ones worth a darn:fire:

OEM magazines range from $20 for a Glock to over $60 on some H&K mags. I have 12 magazines for my G34, use it for Production class in USPSA, need every one sometimes. I use an STI 1911 for Single Stack, Wilson ETM magazines run around $32, have 8 so far, with one that is in need of repair ( stepped on it during a reload ). If you are only going to get 1 or 2 extra magazines, then cost may not be such a factor, 6-10 and they can be expensive. Is this what you are looking for? http://www.cdnninvestments.com/spxdsubco451.html

Custom Classic Sporting Arms is making new-production (Made in the USA) magazines for the Yugo M57 now. They run $29 - still not real cheap, but they are brand new and from my understanding work great.

Any idea what shipping is on those?
I've been watching that guy for a while, I might just order a few and test them out now that he claims they're good to go.
I wonder if they'll lock into my CZ52 as well? Mag dimensions are damn-near identical for the two, just a different magazine catch design.

23 bucks for a glock mag plus the 10 for shipping might as well go to a lgs
