oh ya, i forgot about tactical solutions. they also make barrels for my little browning pistol (browning buckmark) i was looking at those, and they are fantastic looking pieces, pretty sure also aluminum over the ss liner. anodized beautifully too, just about any color if i remember right.

With a little polishing and Volquartsen extractor, they are EXCELLENT guns. I love mine and it is very very reliable and fairly accurate.

Yep, that is the one I was talking about. Promises to be a good bbl, just have to come up with the funds for one (been buying too many new rifles lately), hopefully it will help me whoop up on the good folks in the Monthly Rimfire Match (yep, that sticky thing at the top). :D

OMG!!!!!!!!!!!
does no one here hate the 10-22?
AKKKKKK!
It's like an invasion of the POD People!
I've only owned two 10-22's in the past 36 years and am not quite the fan that I see here!
True I bougt my used 10-22 for $100, 22 years ago and have shot sand rats at 135 yards with a near stock 10-22/scope and I have turned that same 10-22 into a Tactical Trainer for a mere pitance, all with near factory spec 'stuff' on it.
All in all I have less than $400 in a 22LR I have used for 22 years with great joy, whats so special about that?
So what if it is a rifle, that with a business card by the barrel band and $70 dollar trigger job, will hit sand diggers at 135 yards with bulk ammo. What's so special about that?
As for marlin 60's
I bought a Ruger, it might not be perfect but I don't need a second 22LR that shoots "just as well"
As for me I don't photograph rodents, I gather grouse and eat like a king!

The Ruger 10/22 does absolutely nothing for me.

The one that I shot exhibited terrible accuracy.

Maybe it was just a lemon but I prefer bolt actions aside from my 22 conversion kit for my AR-15 that I use for practice at less than 50 yards.

I've got a 10-22 that dad bought me way back. I keep eyeballing all kind of accessories and doo-dads but so far its still stock. I just now got around to putting a scope on it.

Its over twenty years old now and has thousands of rounds thru it. It still shoots well, and has very few malfunctions.

Great gun and you cant beat the price and availability of accessories (if that is your thing). Everyone ought to have at least one.

I will probably be picking up another one for my boy, if his grandfather doesnt beat me to it.

As far as whether or not to get a used vs a new. Its not an expensive gun to begin with. Get a new one. Not saying that there is any reason to avoid a used one if it is in good shape but for a few extra dollars you might as well get a new one.

Just my .02$

Cheers.

For those interested in the last shot hold open conversion it's made by Custom Shooting Technologies. Brownells carries it here.
