Howdy Tex! MIGHT be moved ta dig a little iffin ya ask REAL nice and say pretty please! :) Welcome to tha smokehouse!

Pretty please, with FFFg on it?

I'd like an octagonal if you have one left.
If you think you might help me with a couple other bits maybe we can do one transaction.

Need that lockspring or a lock, the 2 lock screws that come through the other side. and maybe a rear dovetail sight of some sort. I've prowled ebay looking for an appropriate lock, but anything that looked close went for more than it's worth, at least when you consider it might not fit. I don't really want to re-inlet the stock. The screws look to be the same as my CVA Kentucky guns, but the lock is different.
These are for a cheap kentucky rifle kit (not CVA) I built years ago, from a broken-box closeout. It was finished less these two items. It'll never be a shooter - at least I wouldn't shoot it - but I'd sure like to complete the project so I can check it off. And it looks pretty nice, if I do say so myself.

Let me shoot a pic of that lock and get back to you.

Thanks

Rex

Ya gonna have ta settle on a roundie, cause i aint gots no octas unless i cuts off a piece! Be thick enough TO octagon ifin ya want.

And thats; Pretty please with SWISS 3F ifin ya dont mind! I'll check tha parts see what i gots will be a few days, PM your address.

Round is good

OK, round it is. Might make for some draw-filing practice.

Swiss? Is that the stuff with air holes all through it?

Should I just pack about 150 grains with my payment? I bet that would shut down the local PO for an hour or so

I MIGHT be able ta scronge up another one, remember, these are PISTOL length.

Need addresses! PM Please!

Lock pictures

OK, here's what mine looks like.
Distance from tip of sear to mainspring anchor hole is 1.5", but I don't mind drilling a new anchor pin hole for a spring that is otherwise close.

Lock Parts

Rex B

Looks like an old Dixie lock. DGW Kentucky Style Lock.
TP0503 Mainspring
http://www.dixiegunworks.com/product_info.php?cPath=22_567_568_609_615&products_id=6341

Or
I had been able to get generic main springs that the pin
was left blank. You just filed off what you didn’t want.

And
Track of the Wolf, Inc. Has full size pictures in their catalog
of the parts they sell. You could compare your lock to their
main springs.

Tinker2

Could be

Tinker, that spring is probably as good a guess as any. Although I'd be surprised if DGW ever sold a kit as cheap as this one was, or a lock as cheap as this. It shows 1-7/8 OAL, so the distance from pin to sear may be about right. I'll probably just order that.

You guys may remember this kit from back when. The stock was in 2 parts split at the foreend, like the CVA, except where the CVA had a 1/8" brass plate between the two halves, this one had a sheet brass "sleeve" that covered the joint up to the barrel and was about 2" long. I did not use the sleeve, but joined the wood as seamlessly as possible. I wish I'd zoomed back a little on the above photo so you could see that.
I used furniture bought at the local black powder parts store and it turned out pretty nice.
The reason I don't consider it a shooter is the rifling only has 3 grooves/lands, wide ones. Never seen one like that before.

Three lands/grooves was standard for such guns as tha springfield in 19th century, no problem with it shoot and enjoy!

And, old 03 springfields (30-06) some had TWO land/groove barrels.

OK, sounds ike a plan

So, I ordered a spring and two lock screws from Dixie. I bet I can make the spring work if it's even close. Thanks to Tinker2 for the pointer on the lock.

The rear sight will be easy. Cabella's has them, or I may just make one.

Heck, I may actually finish this thing, 20 years (?) after I started it :)

ManyIrons, thanks much for the barrel offer.
That wll be the start of my next project, and my first scratchbuilt.

I'll have to do some thinking on that round barrel part, though. Anyone know of any good round-barrel muzzleloader pistols that would be a good pattern? Primarily interested in the pre-WofNA period. The underhammer sounds promising and should be easier to make than a round-barrel sidelock. Certainly would be more interesting.

Alternately, I'm OK with a modern design. I don't now that I've seen a pistol equivalent to a modern inline rifle.

Rex, there are historically simply LOADS of round barrel pistols from 15th century onwards, google some up! Hit images and you'll have more than ya care for! Example, plug in FLINTLOCK PISTOLS in google, go to top page left, click images, there ya go!

Weird Rifling

And ifin ya wants some ODD rifling!
