about a year ago i got a great deal on a blued ruger service six, i still have it and carry it daily as my ccw. i bought when funds allowed extra parts, i now have every extra part for the gun except the trigger and hammer. do these ever fail under normal use? reason i'm asking a friend of mine is parting out his gun and he will let me have them both for $30 which includes the trigger guard with pawl and transfer bar. will the trigger guard just fit on mine without gunsmithing? his blued guard is almost 100% good bluing and mine is about 50%. thanks for any help

Murphy sez if you have a spare, that part never fails.
But just gotta' ask, why do you think you need all those extra parts, in the first place?

i bought the parts cause ruger won't service these guns anymore, they told me they would have to sell me a sp or gp at a reduced cost if my six needed fixing even on a small part like a spring. something i could replace myself i thought would be good to have as i can't afford putting a few hundred on another gun. i have less than fifty in all my parts as i waited for a good deal. thanks

sounds like you're thinking ahead, in which case youve got all the pieces ya want, cept the trigger and hammer, and for 30 bucks why not,
or save and buy another service six (i understand out of production) then rotate the two:)
Best of luck

Material insurance...

I like it! They're the spare windshield wipers in your trunk making certain that you never need them by their proximity.
Plus: A great sale incentive if it ever comes to that for you.

It's a good idea OP.

They don't make the Six series anymore, a shame. It's smart to get some spare parts while you can, because in 20 years when you might need them I bet it will be harder to find at the same price for sure.

This is one reason why I decided to get a GP100 vs. a Service Six. They still make the GP100 so spare parts should be available for some time. Here is my GP100:

It's a model KGPF-340, fixed sights and half barrel lug are very similar to the Service Six.

$30 isn't that bad for the peice of mind. I would go for it even though I doubt you'll ever need them.

Like everyone else has said, it is doubtful you will need them, but it can't hurt to have them.
If I did that I would lose them and then need them.

Won't hurt. But the sixes are almost bulletproof. Mine has about a gazillion rounds through it and it's box stock except for the grips. Never have had to replace a single part. Can't see trigger or hammer failing. Then there's Mr. Murphy!

If you're truly an old fart, the likely-hood of you outlasting the gun is mighty slim, though.
