Anybody have a suggestion for an EZ install quad rail for an AR?
Never been much for rails, but decided to install one on a 'spare' AR-mebbe playing around with making it a HD gun?

I knew 'bout the DD Omega 7 (pricey), but didn't realize the number of options out there.
Looking for QUALITY stuff, but don't know that I particularly need a free floater-kinda leaning towards a non-free floater as they appear quite a bit less 'spensive.

So far:
Daniel Defense Omega Rail 7 Carbine (Mebbe a bit too pricey)

Daniel Defense EZ CAR 7.0 Rail Carbine Handguard

MI#17 Carbine 2 Piece Tactical Handguards

Anybody...Bueller...Bueller? :D

I like the MI rail a lot I have one on my mid-length AR. It's very solid as well and not to expensive.

Well I bit on the Midwest Industries 2-piece drop in rail. So far, so good!
It seems to be solid, and I can detect no slop-got a SIG STL-300J light/VFG mounted on it.

Unless you have some pressing need for a free floater, I can't see paying the difference and hassle of installing one.

Paid $129, but later saw it at Dynamic Armament for $109! :banghead:

My HD carbine uses a MagPul handguard set with a single short rail for the light. It's inexpensive (the parts plus shipping cost me less than $50) and seems to work well.

Same here. When I was putting my ar together, there was a company selling the MOE gear (stock, grip, trigger guard and handguard set) for right around $100. I needed everything, anyway so I placed an order since it seemed like a good buy. Although I'm not using mine for HD, yet. I don't feel comfortable enough as an ar newbie. It's in the safe with a mag ready, but my ccw piece and a hand-held light are still my HD gear.

I do have a family member that picks on my magpul rails and calls it my star trek gun. "Hey, nice ray gun!" is getting old...

I am very happy with the DoubleStar 2-piece "slim-line" quad rails on my carbine.

I went with these because of their oval design, which I find more ergonomic since I do not use a front grip. These rails are only 1.96" wide and the top rail is in line with flattop receivers. The quality is quite good, they are very light and are rock solid with zero rattle. They were easy to install as well.

I am using LaRue Indexclips. http://stores.homestead.com/Laruetactical/Detail.bok?no=463

^ I see I'm not the only one use a pistol light on my rifle. :)

I had a TLR-1s that I wasn't using, so I stuck it on my AR.

Apparently has no problem withstanding the recoil when mounted on my AR. Since it is very lightweight and I didnt need a big light for my purposes, the TLR-1 was a excellent solution.

I put it on there mainly because I prefer a hand held light in conjunction with a handgun...no sense pointing the gun around to identify threats, and a hand held light for threat assessment plus a weapon light is too many switches under stress for me. My other reason was, well I bought the light and it was just sitting around. Ar's don't have much recoil as the buffer soaks up what little recoil there is. I figured a light that could withstand being mounted on a plastic glock frame that flexes and creates even more stress on the light plus taking the muzzle blast on a handgun, plus the recoil from 10mm was a far more harsher environment than hanging off the side of my AR.

My other two carbines have Insight M6Xes on 'em, but I mounted 'em on a bayonet lug mount as 'bout 3 days ago was my first foray into railed handguards-all my other ARs have regular old round/oval handguards.
Well, my 30+ year old SP1 does have the old triangular guards.

I thought long and hard 'bout just mounting a Streamlight/Insight on the rails and using the remote switch with a VFG, but I like the all-in-one neatness of the SIG STL-300J. I do like the operation of the Streamight/Insights better than the SIG light-I don't see why SIG didn't give you the option of having both the laser and light come on at the same time as with Insight/Streamlight. The SIG laser is either on or off (no momentary use), and then you have to hit a second button for the LED light-it's a shame you can't have both come on with just one button.

After installing the Streamlight LED TLR-2s on ye olde bed gun, I'm waiting for Insight LED upgrades for the Xenon bulbed M6Xes to work their way into the supply stream.

Daniel Defense are a little on the expensive side compared to other brands, however you are getting quality with DD. I have a omega 7 rail, easy install and the quality is great.
