Ez Moonclips

I just ordered a S&W 625 PC and was wondering if these moonclips would be alright. I'm really only interested in taking the gun out to the range I don't shoot competitively.

They are great for range use.

Not good for pocket carry or other rough use though.

I don't carry a .45 revolver in my pocket.

I do on occasion carry loaded clips for them in my pockets however.
Or in clip pouches.

EZ-Moon clips are not suitable for that.

They would not work in my S&W m22 at all.

How did they not work?

They used to make two different models (25 & 625) for older guns and the new models.
The hole in the center was smaller on one of them..

There is also a right side and a wrong side when you load them.
Rim recess on the shiny side has to go up.

I had them when they first came out and you had to do a lot of trimming. But whether I trimmed a lot or none at all they would not allow my cylinder to rotate. I now only use the clips from ranch products.

Yup. Been using Ranch Products clips for 30 years and never found anything better. They'll still be 100% functional long after I'm dead.

This tool and Ranch Products steel moon clips will hold you in good stead. IMO, it is the best choice, and while it is more expensive than some of those hollowed out screwdriver tools, it is a great design and of good quality.

For nearly 40 years I have been happy with Ranch Products. I am interested in trying the RIMZ product but as long as my steel clips work...

I use them at the range a lot. They work well but as pointed out they are very loose and come apart easily.

I picked up a grocery bag worth of moon clips at a gun show for $30 bucks a couple years back. They are a pain to load/unload by hand, but with any of the tools they are simple and easy. Two bolts and lock nuts, and two 1/4" thick by 1" wide pieces of bar stock make a simple loader and either a piece of PVC pipe or metal pipe can quickly be cut to make an unloader. I'd rather deal with the pains of a full moon clip that works than have them come apart on their own.

I really, really preferred my Wilson Combat moon clips to the EZ Clips. Cartridges would fall out and mess up my reload. The Wilsons were very durable and survived defensive handgun courses. However, I do wrap my moonclips with a loop of kydex to prevent them from being bent. It works well.

The Moonclip Tool is a requirement. It makes managing these things a breeze.

Having a hard time understanding what you mean. Can you post a picture?

The tension and slight molding hold it in place. Load as you normally would except push it through with your thumb and let it fall away. It prevents dings from bending the clip when carried in the pocket. Use .08" kydex and make it so the bullet tips are covered. Tensioning is the tricky part, but a heat gun and some dud reloads (use cartridges that weigh the same as live ammo) will allow you to tune until it is just right. Buff the edges while the kydex is flat. Your first one will take 15 minutes to make.
