Does anybody know where I could pick up a FAC locking block for a Taurus/Beretta 92/99? It cant be form FAC or out of their Guns n Stuff catalog since there back ordered.

I picked up one of their 1/2X28tpi threaded barrels for my Taurus PT99 about a month and a half ago. When I picked it up their locking block was on backorder. So I sent my barrel off to Gemtech to have the threads checked out and approved for use with their suppressor. Well today the barrel came back, but I still don’t have my locking block. My form 4 is coming up on two 7 weeks. My last one took 9 weeks to clear the ATF. FAC says they wont have their locking blocks in until some time in January.

The bottom line is that it’s really going to suck when my form 4 clears and I’m sitting at home with my new Gemtech Trinity with an approved barrel, but no locking block.

So where do I pick one up? The factory Taurus wont fit. It must be made by FAC.

Thanks, Dan

Is this a FAC barrel?

Is it for a Taurus or is it for a Beretta?

Who told you that a factory block would not work?

Hi John.

Yes the barrel is FAC.

The barrel is going on a Taurus PT 99. According to the FAC catalogue their barrel will fit the Beretta 92 or the Taurus PT 92 or 99. I think the only difference between the PT92 and PT99 is that the 99 has adjustable sights.

No one told me that the factory locking block wont work. Its just that they strongly recommend you use their locking block. However I tried the factory locking block and it wont fit. It could be made to fit, but it would definitely take some fitting.

That's odd--I thought all the blocks were interchangeable... Doesn't FAC even sell the barrel minus the blocks for folks who don't want to use the FAC blocks?

Have you tried a Beretta block? You might be able to find one of those a little easier.

Any way, it seems like I've seen some of the FAC barrels for sale by Midway--don't recall if they have the blocks or not.

Yes they do sell just the barrel. Midway doesnt have either the block or the barrel. Do you know of another source. I'd really like to have a FAC block since they made the barrel.

Thanks, Dan

The fact that a standard block won't fit is worrisome. By selling the barrels without blocks they're saying that standard blocks should fit. In addition, there is zero reason for them to make a barrel that won't take a standard block and a BIG reason to make one that will.

That means if a standard block won't fit there's almost certainly a quality control issue. My advice would be to send the barrel back and tell them to send you a barrel that that will accept a factory locking block.

In lieu of that, you could have a gunsmith fit the BARREL to the factory block that you have. I don't think modifying the block in any way is a good idea.

Thanks for the help John. The overall quality of the FAC barrel was actually much higher that I was expecting. The Taurus block could be made to fit pretty easily, as it’s very close already. I’d just rather have the FAC original and have it just drop right in. I guess I’ll just have to wait. Thanks again for your help.

DarkTranquility,

I have several FAC barrels--I'm not saying they're bad quality, I'm saying that if a factory locking block won't fit the particular barrel we're talking about then something is wrong with that particular barrel.
