Recently purchased my first 1911, RIA Tactical. At the time, I also purchased some 230gr FMJ's for break in/plinking and some 230gr PDX1's.
Granted, I have not fired enough of either to feel comfortable using it as my carry piece, but it does sit cocked and locked close by in the house as one of many backups, and I think it looks cool.
On occasion when I have been re-loading the 1911 (either from range time or dry-fire time), the PDX1 will fail to chamber and "jam" on the ramp. I have noticed those "jammed" bullets are now visually shorter in their OAL than a fresh cartridge. This does not happen on the FMJ's or my MBC reloads that have "jammed". I haven't measured it to see if it is out of spec, but I am concerned that the case tension is insufficient on the factory ammo. Should I be concerned?
As a side note, I am causing the "jam" I just figured out by babying the slide when I rack the first round :banghead: ...and a new set of Wilson 47D's
My reloading data:
230gr MBC LRN
5.6gr Unique
1.250 COAL
