i want my model 27 s&w reblued and i'd like to have it done at smith&wesson's refinishing shop but i'm really apprehensive about sending it in the mail.... it's a 1968 model 6" and my pride and joy....... i know i can insure it but i'd never find another revolver of this classic caliber that shoots as good or has the refined quality of the vintage handgun.... so there's my problem mass is a long way from iowa so taking it there is out of the question...... any thoughts???????????

Send it to S&W, or depending on where in Iowa you live, take a road trip and drop your gun off here: www.cylinder-slide.com for their "Master Polish and Re-blue".

They have worked on several of my S&W revolvers, and the work is top notch. I've not bought, but only seen their re-blue, and it is literally better than factory. Just be ready for sticker shock. Hand polishing is not inexpensive.

Good Luck...

I have an old Mdl 29 that was pretty beat up, sent it to S&W via UPS for rebluing, could not have been happier with results. I can't recall exactly what turnaround was but it was quick, price was also reasonable. Give them a call, if you have a classic S&W no better place to have it put back into shape then where it came from.

First off, you cannot mail a handgun via the US Postal Service. This is illegal for a non-federal dealer.

You have to ship through UPS or FedEx.

If you package the gun well, insure it for it's actual value and send it by a fast method, it'll get there safely.

For a top quality factory type re-blue, I'd go with S&W FIRST. Added pluses are, factory re-blues lower the value of the gun less than a non-factory re-blue, and S&W will have the best pricing and turn-around.
