Well I have acquired about 300 gun boxes from a Texas gun shop that went out of business in the early 80's. There are prob at least 100 to 150 revolver boxes. All revolver boxes are RUGER, SMITH & WESSON, or COLT. Some of the Ruger boxes are still in the shipping sleeve and the yellow box on the inside looks has all paler work and looks new. Lots of the S&W boxes are the two piece some are solid blue and some are darker with silver trim. Most all of the boxes have ALL paper work . I think all of the one piece boxes have paper work, insert, cleaning kit. There are not many colt boxes. There are also 100 to 150 long gun boxes. Browning (some are Belgium boxes), Remington, Winchester and Ruger rifle boxes. I need to know if anyone knows where I can find research info. I am going to sell them all but know very little about them. I have looked on gun Broker gut it did not help me much. I think I might have some boxes that might make some collectors very happy so any and all help would be appreciated. Thanks

Hi, Tyler.

All your previous posts are Buy, Sell & Trade. That would be a good place to find someone interested in these boxes. Otherwise, it is extremely difficult to give advice without a list of the 300 you have. Many of them may be old boxes without value to anyone.

Begs the question: That old gun store sold hundreds and hundreds of new handguns and long guns but kept the boxes, paperwork, and cleaning kits? The buyers must have been proud of their new purchases and just walked out into the street displaying their new guns.

Gunbroker would be an ideal place to list them them. List them for the maximum time.

The boxes alone are generally not of much value to anyone but collectors. I've actually looked on GB for one or two old revolver boxes even though they may not have the matching serial to the one I own. It's strictly a collector's thought process.

Probably not the answer you're looking for, but it would be a challenge to track the the value of each one of those boxes.

They do have value. Some more than others. Older Python boxes will fetch 100 dollars or more. Same thing with any other desireable revolver. They boxes and the guns go hand in had with their comeasurate value.

I sold a more modern Colt box for a Mustang/Govt 380 and it went for 75 dollars on GunBroker. Surprised me.

i agree! makes you wonder if this was a front for a criminal / terrorist group. hmmm, maybe sending them across the border under the cover of night? or maybe just a trip to jersey or atlantic city now and then.

I wish I kept all the boxes from my guns. I had them all for a while, but the wife talked me into tossing them a while ago. When I went to trade a gun a few years ago, the guy told me that I would have gotten more if I had the box and papers LOL Last time I listen to my wife about my guns!

eBay is a good place (okay, not a "good" place - as I'm sure all you eBay haters will be happy to let me know) to list such things.

Big, big potential market.

I would advertise in Gun Report or Arms and the Man; you want to reach the collecting fraternity who prize original boxes. Those are not that old, but definitely old enough to be of interest.

Quite honestly, these were probably for display models. Lots of people could care less about a box and really want the gun. That said, some people want a period-correct box for their LN-OOB treasure. You can buy repro S&W box stickers, just buy a New-Old box, remove the sticker, put on a repro sticker with the correct markings for your treasure, and presto, you have "LNIB"! and worth a premium on Gunbroker or Fugate Firearms....

I'd possibly be interested in the boxes for the Ruger Security-Six 2 3/4" barrel and the Ruger Mark II Target (MK-678).

I would gather a list of serial numbers off the boxes and post them on the market place sections of their respective forums. I personally wouldn't be interested in buying a box just to have, but would definitely be interested if it were *the original* box for my S&W.

Looks like the rugers are all new models, $5-10 each, the python box is worth ebaying as is the Smith model 19 two piece box. Take the others to a gun show and buy a table, let the guys dig through them for a while at $10 each, then when the fuss is about over drop them to $5, walk out with cash in hand and forget em', good luck!
