Let's assume (and we're all hoping) that the AWB sunsets properly this fall and isn't renewed. I've purchased a British L1A1 flashhider an bowie bayonet to have mounted on my rifle when I return home from Qatar, in this event, in lieu of that useless, heavy muzzle brake.
I chose the L1A1 flashhider because the L1A1 was one of very very few FAL variants to have any kind of proper bayonet. The "tubular" bayonet common to the metric variants is just chinsy; the Austrian STG58 didn't even HAVE a bayonet (the Austrians think they're inhumane).
I don't know about South African FAL bayonets, though I think they used an L1A1 style one (as did the Canadians). The German G1 had a proper knife bayonet as well.
However, what I'd really like is a custom muzzle device that allowed attachment of all M16 bayonets. There are some cool bayonets out there for the M16 series (the M9, M10, and the custom jobs from Ontario Knife Company).
It's not that I think that I'll ever have a use for a bayonet on my personal rifle, but if you can get one why not?
