Okay, over time I've acquired an FAL kit and DSA receiver to go along with it.

I'm looking for opinions on what compliance parts I should definitely get and from where.
Also, what accessories are absolutely essential?

I want this to be a mid range rifle. Nothing super tactical for room clearing.

Please...educate me.

FSE extended mag release

Folding charging handle

Para rear sight

SAW M-249 pistol grip

Short combo muzzle device

Cut barrel to 18"

Get rid of the bi-pod :scrutiny:

Get rid of the carry handle (its NOT a bloody purse! :cuss: )

AND it you really want the cool FAL variant, get a Para conversion (~$500) ;)

Here is a link to a worksheet for you to use.

Your DSA receiver will count as 1 part.

Parts I would change,

Gas Piston.
Hammer
Trigger
Sear
Pistol Grip
Magazine Floor Plate
Magazine Follower
Muzzle Device.

That ought to get you compliant, with the least money spent on replacement parts.

Here are some places to look at for those parts.

But for better advice than I can give, check out these folks.

Good Luck with your build.

I got all my parts from DSA and could not have been happier. The only thing that I would like to have done different would have been Israeli Light Barrel Hand Guards. They have metal heat shields that should work so much better than the cheap plastic hand guards most people sell. I had a set of the Mil Spec hand guards from DSA and they worked good but with enough heat they will warp and you'll need an oven mitt to hold the thing.

KCFirepower,

The head spacing and barrel fit are critical for a FAL to be safe and work correctly, it takes specialized gauges and tools. You should be able to handle most all of the rest of the build. I trust a professional for the upper work, and not just any smith, one that knows FALs. The locking shoulder will usually be provided by the smith that does the work.

You might look into this fellow, I have heard good things about his work.

This guy has done a pair of my guns, but he is hard to get a hold of and his work takes a while, it's good, but only if you are not in much of a hurry.

Also remember, just because some smith worked on the part does not make it compliant. If you keep your internals, you will have to get compliant somewhere else in the build. Buy the new American parts, then get them tricked out if you don't like the way they feel.

Here is a photo of my FALs,

(Waiting on the W.E.G. magazine foul comment, LOL Other than being a funny picture guy you know he is an admin over at the FALFiles, right?? A good source of information if he chooses to jump in.)
