I am thinking about selling my FAL. I want to buy a 6.5 or 6.8 upper for my AR15. Need money for the new project. It is a G1 FAL by Century. I know everyone is down on CIA,but this rifle works great. I ordered it as soon as CIA started advertising them. I had heard that CIA did not change machining parts as often as they should, resulting in failures. That is why I got it early. It looks great too. What can expect to get if I put it for sale? Or should I just keep it? By the the way,it shoots 1.5" groups with the DSA mount, and Nikon scope.

1.5 inch @ 100 is outstanding from any FAL and better than most including FN and DSA.

I got a Century FAL its always worked great. Its a 2-4 inch gun most of the time, I've got no regrets.

I hope you get alot of money for it. Mines not for sale, but I wouldn't mind seeing prices go up in case it ever is.

Thanks for your input Surfin! I forgot to mention that it also has an excellent trigger job,and a new FN barrel that I bought from Sarco.I think I'll keep it.

A FAL that shoots consistent 5 shot 1.5" groups (as opposed to occasionally shooting a 3 or even 5 shot 1.5" group) is a gun I would hang onto.

I also have a CAI FAL and while it doesn't shoot 1 MOA, it shoots better than I do these days. Best I can do is about 3 MOA off of a bench but I'm completely satisfied with that in a battle rifle. I could do better 30 years ago when my eyes were still good, but..... Yes they did build some good ones.

I was sold the barrel by a friend who collects and restores FAL's. It was a new/old stock chrome lined FN barrel he got from Sarco. I knew it was a better one than the stock barrel;and after he installed it,my groups were cut in half. I called CIA and asked them who made the barrel that came on the gun. They said they did not know. Anyway,it is not a new rifle; I've had it a few years.

If I was 30 years younger I'd sell the FAL and get an AR10. But at my age the FAL is as accurate as I need it to be. At 1.5 inches your gun is definately a keeper. Although a 6.8 upper is a drop in with you AR the 7.62x51 is a lot more versatile. And will alway have more available ammo. I'm lucky mine eats 308 soft points just like FMJ surplus.

On another forum (surprisingly not FAL Files) someone gave an excellent explanation of why the FAL will never be a precision rifle, basically the open top and back of the upper receiver combined with the locking mechanism at the rear of the bolt as opposed to the rotating bolt/barrel extention method of the AR 15. I'm not an engineer but it made sense.

Still hope you get a great price if you decide to sell;)

W.E.G. - I have discovered through reading this forum that everybody but me shoots fantastic groups with all manner of rifle types. Most Ar15 shooters around here tout .5" groups as mundane.
