Even though most people (including me) consider August to still be the summertime Fall Hunting has officially started today in the great state of Oregon with Fall Black Bear opening and Cougar reopening today. Even though I am not going to be able to go out today, of for about a week and a half for that matter, it's still nice to know that my favorite time of the year has started.

So, how about everyone else? What seasons are opening, or what seasons are you gearing up for? I know my father and I are already starting to get excited for elk in November......

Around here, deer season (regular firearms) opens in mid-October. Not sure of the exact dates for Archery, BP, and Firearms yet, not having obtained a copy of the current regs.

No closed season on hogs and coyotes, IIRC.

Well, my tag is for the Nov 5-14 mule deer hunt. I believe for the unit I got drawn for there is a late October mule and whitetail hunt. Scanning the regs, it looks like the earliest deer hunts start on Oct 29. Looks like elk starts as early as August 6, but most hunts aren't until October.

I'm planning my initial scouting trip for next weekend for the deer hunt.

And with the start of hunting season (or at least its fast approach here in the East), its also time to ask that wonderful question - who has th ebest ammo deals these days?

Specifically, I am looking for .30-30 Who's got thebest prices for Winchester Silver Tips? Wal mart? Cheaper Than Dirt? Natchez? Somewhere else?

Inquiring minds want to know.

Well, I picked up my copy of the regs today- blackpowder starts Oct 9th, and firearms starts Oct 16th.

As for .30-30 ammo deals, I don't know about Win Silvertips as I shoot Remington KoreLokts. Last I bought was from WalMart, but I know my local dealer has them too.

Archery season opens on the 28th, and I'm getting an over the counter cow tag. Taking that whole next week as vacation for a combo fishing/hunting trip into some high country haunts. Archery season goes for 4 weeks, so I can take weekend trips till the end of September. Got an either sex elk tag for the southwest part of the state for first rifle season for October 9 thru 13. Just found out that my buddy from Arizona and I drew deer tags for the unit just south of the Grand Canyon for the first week of November. And I've got a backup deer tag for the second season here in Colorado, for the area around Aspen, just in case.

So yea - I get up for fall hunting season!

The "4'th of July" of Tejas seasons seems to be Sept. 1 - opening day for dove.

Deer (firearm season anyway) typically opens the first Saturday in November. Bowhunters sometimes out there in October with mosquitoes.

I'm planning on doing all the hunting I can this year. Bow season starts for me October 1st, BP starts October 16th and modern gun opens up Nov. 13th. I'm already getting excited and have plenty of vacation days saved up... :D

It's a little over a month till grouse and rabbit seasons open here in Michigan.
I've got a 12 year-old who is rarin' to go.
