I'm going to be working in DC, and living in Falls Church, VA.

Can anyone tell me about gun shops, ranges, shooting clubs, etc. in the area? Is it generally a gun-friendly place, or not?

It's "occupied" Virginia in my mind. Not bad since it is still VA.

If you're near 66 the NRA range is just down the road and it a great facility.

Not sure about shops or other ranges in the AO since I only visited my brother there. I know he belonged to the Izaak Walton league and it was a nice range. Now, I think he belongs to Fairfax County Gun Club (not sure that name is right or not).

Of course, stay clear of DC as much as possible and keep out of md also if you can.

Sadly, Potomac Arms is gone, which means if you need to buy a fighter jet or artillery piece you're out of luck.

Virginia Arms, Dominion Arms, and Blue Ridge Arsenal are all near you; the first two are only a few miles from each other and BRA has a shooting range. The NRA also has a shooting range which is nearly always very busy.

So far as I know, the only gun club in the area has a long waiting list and membership is expensive.

There is a indoor range and a gun shop off Terminal Road in Springfield, called Gilberts Small Arms.

If you like shotgun sports, the Fairfax County Park system runs the Bull Run Shooting Center, at Bull Run Park, I have attached a link. They have Wobble Traps, Trap, Skeet, and 5 stand, if fact the toughtest 5 stand on the east coast most likely, and they have a great Sporting Clays course.

They sell shotgun shells and reloading components, as well as renting shotguns to folks who don't have their own.

Very reasonable fees, me and a couple of my buddies shoot there every weekend.

Blue Ridge Arsnel in Chintilly.

i live in DC, and that's where i go. Gilberts is meh, but the NRA range is beautiful (but doesnt rent, and i cant have my guns in DC)

There are multiple clubs in the area, including Arlington/Fairfax Izaak Walton (range in Centreville) and Alexandria Izaak Walton (Range in Stafford).
Arlington/Fairfax may be full up again, but you can contact either of them and ask.
There are some ranges available in the National Forests west of the area also.

You are in Virginia with full state level preemption of almost all local gun laws.
Cities and counties can pass very limited rules for hunting (like banning it completely).

Concealed carry is governed by state law, and the sub-municipalities must follow the state rules.
The Code of Virginia section is here

Permits are 'shall issue' and the training is rather minimal.
Additional training is generally a good idea, but NOT mandated.

All Virginia lethal force law is case law.
'The Virginia Gun Owner's Guide' is a very good investment if you plan on carrying.

This has all been valuable information for me. I appreciate each of you taking the time to post.
