I'm still torn between a FAL and HK91. After deciding to try both and go from there, I tried a G3 at "Discount Firearms" (here in Vegas). G3s are heavier than I thought, but the weight helps compensate for the recoil. While I was at it, a full auto AK47 also found its way into my hands. Sweet!:) Anyway, all that's left now is a little trigger time with the FAL. Does anyone know where there might be one for rent at a range? Thanks.

From what I understand and have heard. The FAL doesn't recoil as heavily as the G3/PTR 91 series of rifles due to the gas system used. Citidel doesn't have a range, but If i recall correctly, they might have some FAL's on their racks, call and ask to make sure ahead of time though.

It's a crowded, expensive range, but The Gun Store on Tropicana has FALs (and almost everything else under the sun). It's on Trop between Maryland Pkwy and UNLV on the north side of the street.

Just make sure that if the FAL is blasting out brass 40 feet behind you, adjust the gas system properly. Get it to merely plop it out to your side and it feels like a .22LR. Honest injun!

When adjusting the gas remember the rifle should be reliable, no matter what position the rifle is in or how it is held.

Try adjusting the gas with the rifle held "limp" at your side.

Put one round in and dial the gas closed until the bolt stays open after the last shot (on metric rifles)

Now click the gas regulator one more click closed.

You will find that when you use the limp hold the gas will be closed 3 or 4 more clicks than adjusting the gas from solid shoulder hold.

Making it recoil lighter is one thing, reliability is another.

Its not like it recoils that much anyway, its a pretty heavy rifle.

"Humpback" stocks seem to have less noticeable recoil than the strait StG stocks, at least for me.
