The vendors' description states that installing the B-Square scope mount in an AK or MAK is simple and requires no gunsmithing skills. The installation instructions refer to replacing the trigger and hammer pins with bolts supplied with the mount. To remove these pins, one simply lifts the safety spring out of the grooves built into the two pins. This itself is rather difficult, at least it was for me, especially since the instructions available online are extremely vague and unhelpful. What neither the vendors nor the manufacturer admit, however, is that when you remove these two pins the whole firing mechansim comes apart. The sear and its small spring fly across the room and the main spring twists all out of position. I don't even have the B-Square scope mount yet; it is on order. But I wanted to go ahead and find out how to remove the two pins. In short, installing this scope mount is a major operation which involves disassembling and reassembling the heart of the AK action. I merely wanted to warn you. Of course, if you are used to breaking down the AK trigger and hammer assemblies, this installation will not be a problem.

This is just the gun gods' ways of letting you know AK's aren't supposed to have scopes mounted to them ;)

Joking aside, there are some fella's on here that can help you get the trigger group back together lickity split!

I have now gotten everything back together by working at it (no instructions). We must remember that the first time is usually much harder than the repetitions (remember that, girls!) I must say that I really like the AK design and especially my MAK-90 with milled receiver.

I know that I can do much better with a scope than with the iron sights, because of my eyesight. My MAK has a very good trigger and I think it has the potential to be quite accurate with good ammo. But I am new to all of this and it has been hard for me to get my scopes adjusted. "The first time...."

It sounds like you tried to do something out of order...I've taken my AKs apart several times and have never had problems with spring tension or flying parts. Check www.gunsnet.net for instructions on disassembling the FCG.

I don't know about that mount, but in many such cases, the idea is to PUSH the original pin out WITH the pin supplied with the mount. This prevents anything from flying away.

Yes, I see your point. The directions do say to use the replacement bolt to push the pin out. I won't get the mount from Ultimate Outdoors until next week. Perhaps I was impatient.

Another vote for changing the thread title! Want a couple of thread title suggestions? :)

I will readily admit that many of you are more skilled with tools and more experienced in working on guns than I am. But having now completed the installation of the B-Square scope mount on my MAK-90, I will stand by my statement that this can be a very difficult and frustrating job. The problems arise because moving the shepherd's crook out of the slots in the axles and keeping it out while you remove the pin seems to require three hands. I have only two. And the idea that you can merely shove the axles out with some light pressure may not be true. I had to pound with a hammer and pin, thus allowing the firing group to come loose. If you could push the axles out with the replacement bolts, everything would be almost as simple as B-Square states. But your experience may be different from mine.

I understand you're frustrated. But consider this:

In every third world country that issued the AK, low-motivation conscript troops learned to disassemble their AKs with nothing more than a loaded round.

Quickly.

While instructors, many no doubt hairy and unpleasant smelling, shouted disparaging remarks about their mothers and genetic purity only inches from their faces.

Just a thought... :)
