I was looking for sound suppressors and came across this company: http://www.thompsonmachine.net/?page_id=99. Has anyone heard of Thompson Machine or have experience with them? How well do they suppress? Are they quality suppressors? I like how you can disassemble them for cleaning. Any input is appreciated. Thanks.

I've heard and fired through Thompson Machine suppressors. They're very quiet, fun to shoot.

The 9mm suppressor they put out is awesome.

And they come apart to clean easily. (instructions come with them)

Awesome. They look like they are well made and reasonably priced. I watched some YouTube videos and they do seem like they are quieter than a lot of other popular suppressors. Anyone else have first-hand experience with them? Thanks.

Wipes are sheets of rubber or (these days) polyurethane. They have ax X-shaped slit the bullet passes through. Yes, they wear out quickly...they are a consumable item. But it's a cheap and effective way to improve suppression.

Atf stated wipes are ok now and they are solid without a precut x...HPs will wear them out to the point it gets loud in 10rds and fmj will eat it up on 20rds. Why don't you buy a can already? You'll end up buying more anyway.

I have a letter that says while wipes can be replaced, the old ones have to be destroyed before making (or obtaining) the new ones. I was going to make a wipe can for my 1895 Nagant revolver, but decided it was too much of a pain so I mounted my 9mm can on it instead.

So you mean to tell me that with the Thompson Machine suppressors that since they use "wipes," I will have to have a supply of wipes around and need to tear down and replace them in the suppressor every 20 rounds?

You certainly don't have to take down the suppressor and replace parts every 20 rounds, not with any suppressor I've ever heard of. Read on the website, email the manufacturer. They are very good about not only replying to inquiries quickly, but they are the best ones to explain how to care for the suppressors and how exactly they work.

No, I am saying that you can not have a supply of wipes around unless you have a license to make NFA firearms. An ATF form 4 is not a license to make replacement parts like wipes. You can only make replacement wipes after destroying the originals according the ATF.

I do not know how long the wipes used in the Thompson Machine suppressor last. I wrote to them asking though.

There are videos on youtube on the TM cans...

Ill explain this once, the wipe cans from TM and Degroat are niche cans. They are cool but for sound reduction require to be shot wet and use wipes. Both manfacturers supply the order number on what durometer rubber to order from Mcmastercar and supply a "cookie cutter" to cut out the wipes from each sheet. You have to charge the can with 5cc water or wire pulling gel and replace the wipes every 20rds to be backyard quiet.

I suggest for your 1st suppressor to buy a top of the line take apart .22can like the silencerco sparrow or AAC element or a 9mm can like the Osprey or Tirant. Once you get your feet wet youll want to collect more and might go for the niche cans down the road. Happy hunting.

+1 what Ironman said

I wrote to Thompson suppressors and was told that the (single) wipe is made from neoprene and lasts 15-20 rounds. They also said the wipes were easy to make and replace.
